ROCOTO PERUVIAN BITES — neighborhood peruvian in Portage Park. Casual, established, and unapologetic about it. This is cooking with real conviction. "The fish used in the ceviche is so fresh, it’s incredible" — Chris Eyo

“No frills ambiance, but the napkin rolled silverware, chicha music playing, soccer game, and the two gentlemen who were sitting at the table gave all the signals of an authentic Peruvian restaurant”

“I’ve ordered takeout a few times, always the bites, and it’s TOO good.”
I’ve ordered takeout a few times, always the bites, and it’s TOO good. It’s a good sized portion for $5-10 depending on the dish. The fish used in the ceviche is so fresh, it’s incredible. I’d love to dine in eventually.

“This is a friendly, humble, hidden Peruvian gem.”
This is a friendly, humble, hidden Peruvian gem. This spot is no frills and straight forward. It's about the food and family living room feel. Rocoto is small - about 11 tables - with 2 large tvs that were surrounded by men after work, quietly enjoying fútbol, converting a few tables into a viewing area, and having Peruvian soft drinks, like inka kola and kola inglesa. This place is BYOB and doesn't serve alcohol. Our waitress, Tracy, answered all of our questions and was very sweet. I told her I wanted real Peruvian home cooking and she made great recommendations. I LOVED their "bites" menu which allowed us to try their entrees in smaller portions, which are actually more like normal portions! This is a great option for me as someone that doesn't eat huge meals and made it an affordable dinner (both of us had left overs). The food is delicious, authentic and satisfied m partner beyond her picky expectations (her grandmother is a Peruvian Chef, so she's a tough critic.) We had the Tallarines saltado de carne, Ají de Gallina, Cau Cau and lomo saltado. All yummy and came out steaming fresh, made to order. I'd add extra onions and tomatoes in the lomo if you're into that since it was heavier on the fries. Other than that, food is a solid 8/10. Please get the house ají. It's is so good. It's not very spicy and very savory and flavorful green sauce for every meal. I ordered 8 oz. Of it to go. 😂 We went crazy and also ordered dessert. The Mazamora, mixto con arroz con leche, combining 2 desserts traditionally served side by side, topped with cinnamon. The purple side is like a fruit pudding made from purple corn, and filed with pineapple pieces, plums and cloves. This has the the same flavor as the drink “chicha morra”. Paired with a creamy, sweet rice pudding with raisins, the dessert was a perfect balance of sweet, creamy and fruity. It was hearty, so make sure you leave space for it or take it home to enjoy later. (Pro tip: ask for it warm) All-in-all, if I can't come in, I'm ordering on grubhub and enjoying it at home. I'm definitely a fan now and will be back!

“I have the worst experience in this place.”
I have the worst experience in this place. First take them so long to make my stake and not only that I got a hair in my plate the service didn't say nothing First just take the Plat and not even apologize. And later he comes back saying he will make another one I already lose my appetite from been mad and hungry.
