Lou Mitchell's — neighborhood brunch & breakfast in West Loop. Buzzy, energetic room where the crowd adds to it. The flavors don't apologize for being bold. Colin Hill: "The salmon bennidict was one of the best bennidicts I've ever had"

The food is incredible and I love eating breakfast at a place that's been open for over 100 years. Going feels like being with a slightly loud group of happy friends, if that makes, lol. I have minor things I wish were slightly different, but nothing that makes me even hesitate to think about going most weekends :)

“We ordered a very basic menu for breakfast and brunch.”
We ordered a very basic menu for breakfast and brunch. Bacons were very light and crunch, potatoes are served different, fresh thinly sliced cut made different crunchiness. Bread served was very airy and textured, fluffy- great with butter and homemade orange marmalade (which was very citrusy and creamy, i generally don’t eat but I finished all of them) Egg Benedict is big serving than usual size, three eggs, muffins were looks like homemade, really good-fluffy. I like to visit again if I visit Chicago.

“Had the pecan and bacon waffle.”
Had the pecan and bacon waffle. Absolutely delicious. All the little bite sized treats were a welcome addition and the vibes in there were immaculate.

“Great place, great people, GREAT food at reasonable prices compared to others.”
Great place, great people, GREAT food at reasonable prices compared to others. An authentic feel of the 50s/60s close to the route 66. A lady from Dallas with great tattoos looked after us. Thank you. Check opening times and days, absolutely worth a visit! Mark and Mandy UK

“Everyone here was so efficient but also nice and friendly.”
Everyone here was so efficient but also nice and friendly! The orange juice, bacon and banana pancakes were delicious. So close to the Amtrak or Metra stations, it’s the perfect location to grab some food at a historic Route 66 location! I can see why everyone recommended it to me and I will be recommending it to others. Thanks again. P.S It’s a great photo opportunity too!

“There was a brief wait, we were seated within five minutes.”
There was a brief wait, we were seated within five minutes. It's truly a family operated restaurant. All parties must be present and in line before they will offer a table. It helps to look over the menu before seating. Once seated drink orders were taken, served, doughnut hole w/orange, and orders taken within five minutes. This restaurant is a well run operation. The food was served within ten minutes and served hot. We ordered corn beef hash, eggs, and potatoes. The fluffy egg whites, potatoes, and toast. The hash browns are thinly sliced well cooked potatoes served in a heaping pile. We were served four over easy eggs topped on the corned beef. The orange maramalade is freshly made. It's a great accompaniment for the doughnut hole. Overall, great dining experience.

“Heritage and the OG breakfast place of Chicago with the best service.”
Heritage and the OG breakfast place of Chicago with the best service. Loved their veggie omelette-it was the fluffiest omelette I've ever had. We also tried their freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, coffee pecan roll and fries. Fries were a little too oily for my taste and the pecan roll was little too sweet but everything else was great.

We dropped by during the Chicago Marathon (which we forgot was happening) and even thought they were very busy, the service was excellent. Our server was attentive and kind , and the sweet old lady by the door wished us a good breakfast. The food was great, pancakes were HUGE. Will say the only fault was that the hot chocolate didn’t taste much like chocolate, it was milked down. But all in all would come again 😉

“Met my son here for lunch.”
Met my son here for lunch. Didn't review the menu beforehand and thought it was a pizza joint. Was surprised that it was a breakfast spot. We ordered a Denver omelet, biscuits & gravy, and a side of wings. Everything was tasty (gravy a bit thicker than my liking, but ok). Service was good and there was no wait.

“This a great place for a good breakfast with a lot of options for everyone.”
This a great place for a good breakfast with a lot of options for everyone! Not far from union station, this place has a rich history and story that makes it unique. The food was very fresh and service quick and attentive. If you’re in a hurry, you can sit yourself at one of the barstools rather than waiting on a table! Highly recommend!
