Tamu Sushi
Tamu Sushi — top-tier japanese in West Loop. A holdout in the best possible way. Flavors that haven't been adjusted for mass appeal. Well-priced. "My favorites were the unagi and spicy scallop, and the miso soup was very good" — Angelina Ly

“Very good sushi place, where to enjoy some fresh and delicious temaki. Everything is handrolled at the moment, and the tastes are really good and genuine. I appreciated a lot the rice/fish ratio, as rice is not too prominent allowing you to test several options without feeling overwhelmed. The tartare and uni (sea urchin) in particular are a must, very fresh and yummy.”

“Beautiful restaurant. Came here for the lunch omakase. They do walk-ins, but I scheduled ahead the day before. Everything was amazing and service was excellent.”

“Chef Max is the most friendly sushi chef I’ve ever met! And of course the food was amazing.”

“We came for the omakase experience and Chef Max was the best! He explained everything about the fish as well as the name in both English and Japanese. Highly recommend for a date night or girls night out.”

“Tried omakase at Tamu with my wife for our anniversary and it was an exceptional experience. The chef and staff were most accommodating and the 17 omakase course was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend the Wagyu add on it was a fantastic bite.”

“Max was our chef and he was incredible. Any question we had, he had an answer - and he kept us entertained the entire time. My wife and I went for a make up Valentine’s Day, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The whole experience felt elevated but still casual and comfortable. The food was outstanding, and the quality was truly unmatched. The sake that max recommended was a perfect pair and the cocktail I had was great. Highlights were the sea urchin, small and sweet; the hand roll with crab; and the Japanese snapper.”

“The best omakase experience start to finish. I wish I could adequately put into words how fun the vibe was, how amazing the food is, and how incredible Chef Max is. The precision and thought into every bite was impeccable. Chef Max made this night one of the funnest things we’ve ever done in Chicago. Two hours laughing with our new friend Max who showed us his heart through his food. 10/10 , do not hesitate to book, and don’t hesitate to share your Sake :) Thank you Max!”

“We had a fantastic Valentine’s Day dinner at Tamu! We made a reservation at the hand roll bar and were seated promptly. My wife is gluten free and they told us that all their soy sauce is tamari, so almost all the rolls were safe for her to eat! We didn’t see anything about allergens on the website, so I would recommend they add it there too! We started with a Japanese rice lager and the tuna tartare with incredibly crispy rice chips. Then we tried many different hand rolls and enjoyed them all, especially the salmon skin. The service was decent, they were pretty busy for Valentine’s Day but our water glasses were kept full. Overall a fabulous meal, and we will definitely be back to try the omakase lunch or dinner.”

“I came here for the lunch omakase with my friend last year and I totally forgot to write a review! It was so tasty ! It was also quick so you won’t be here for more than an hour if you have a short lunch! I ordered hot tea but I can’t remember which one I chose but it def had a weird funky name and was very enjoyable. I would love to come back!”
