“I am so happy that I decided to wander in here with my friends. Very delicious, service was excellent, and I will be coming back!! PS. The pepper blew Guero away! Epic.”

“✨ A Delicious Stop at Taqueria El Charro Had another great experience at Taqueria El Charro, one of those real neighborhood spots that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. There’s nothing fancy about it — just good food, good people, and that comfortable Rogers Park charm. I went with a burrito, and it was exactly what you want: generous, neatly wrapped, and full of flavor in every bite. Everything tasted fresh and balanced, hearty without being heavy. The salsa had that bright, homemade kick, and the chips were crisp and perfect on the side. The little touches made it even better — the house sauces lined up and ready, and an ice‑cold mandarin soda that paired perfectly with the meal. Simple details, but they show care. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuine, the kind of place where the food speaks for itself and you can feel the history in the walls. It’s the definition of a neighborhood gem. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food in Chicago that delivers on flavor, freshness, and value, El Charro is absolutely worth the stop. I’ll be back for sure.”

“Some of the best tacos in Chicago!! An underrated gem. This place is consistent and has been my neighborhood go to taco spot. They have the more interesting meats too, like lengua and cabeza, which not every taco joint does because they can’t be as authentic when catering to a gentrified audience.”

“Third time eating here and I absolutely love their food! The waitresses were all super welcoming and attentive! I had their suadero tacos (and for someone who has had suadero tacos in Mexico) these are so far the best I’ve had in Chicago! This time I had their suadero tacos chilaquiles and both the green and the morita ones were AMAZING the arrachera(skirt steak) was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was so good! Definitely up there as a favorite and must try in the northside of Chicago!”

“Best burrito I’ve tasted on the north side for sure .. the red sauce is fuego!!!”

“I ordered the Quesabirria and the taste was balanced with plenty of meat and cheese!! My coworker ordered the Tampiqueña and was also good!! Definitely recommend!!”

“I had the pozole it was delicious! Great family owned business!”

“GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE & THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! I GOT THE CHILE RELLENOS PLATTER COMBO AND THE BEST I'VE TASTED SO FAR! VERY CLEAN ESTABLISHMENT! IF THRU SOLD MARGARITAS IT WOULD BE EVEN BETTER..LOL..GREAT JOB GUYS!”

“He vivido en esta área por años y apenas descubrí este lugar . La comida es deliciosa , el servicio se las meseras súper atento y amables . Lo recomiendo mucho Los mejores tacos al pastor 🌮”

“I moved here from San Diego and I’ve been homesick for my mom’s cooking and the taco truck owner who fed me for three years outside my old place. I found this spot down the block and started coming every three days or so — the daughter at the register remembers my face, my story, my budget. It started to feel like somewhere I belonged. Today I waited 45 minutes for chicken soup. They were out of chicken. I got one drumstick and some extra veggies. I had to ask for a refund, and instead of comping a $12 soup outright, the owner countered with half off and a beef substitute. On a $12 soup, for a regular the staff knows is on a tight budget and spends carefully. The Ethiopian place on the same block would never. The taco guy in San Diego and the second I met in River North at Mexitacos used to send me home with extra for free. Mi viejita would be heartbroken at how this was handled. The daughter deserves better than this. So do the regulars. Soup was delicious.”

“Terrible. No flavor. Only salt. Ordered $80 worth of food and waited over an hour for the delivery. Was looking forward to the arrachera, kinda salty. Rice and beans are duds. Taco was $5 and was the smallest tacos I’ve rated in months. Mexican coke $5 and they gave me the small one. Never ordered from this place again.”
