Daruma Restaurant — top-tier japanese in Schaumburg. Feels like it's been there since before the neighborhood changed. This is cooking with real conviction. Handles groups well. Jesse Lee: "The grilled chicken is juicy and yet crispy on one side"

“I’ve been to Daruma many times — one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in the Chicago area.”
I’ve been to Daruma many times — one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in the Chicago area. Worth driving from downtown. Big portions and reasonable prices. Authentic and great Japanese food every time.

I particularly like their ramen, even though I have to drive an hour to get here, it's a pity that ramen is only available at night. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly.

“I visited here on a certain day in August 2025.”
I visited here on a certain day in August 2025. It was at 11:25 am. They were already open. My wife ordered a "KAKI FRY LUNCH". And I ordered a "TONKATSU LUNCH" "TONKATSU" was very huge ! and juicy. The tomato spaghetti served alongside the "TONKATSU" was also good. They were very kind and explained about the foods politely.

A hidden gem! Daruma is fast, fresh, and generous with portions. I got the Daruma Bowl, which came loaded with three salmon sashimi, two yellowtail, three tuna sashimi, 🍣 plus a mountain of sushi rice, pickled ginger, and miso soup - all for a great price! My friend’s lunch special 🍱 looked just as amazing. Bonus tip! You’re served hot tea 🍵 as soon as you sit down. Highly recommend, it’s delicious!!!

“Nice, quiet atmosphere, beautiful Japanese interior.”
Nice, quiet atmosphere, beautiful Japanese interior. The staff are very polite and friendly. I ordered the Katsu pork rice bowl. It was a huge serving! The pork was tender, juicy, and tasty. We also had the fried baby octopus for appetizer and it was delicious. There were lots of Asian customers in the restaurant so it could be a good sign that the food is good and authentic.

“Daruma is a neighborhood gem for authentic Japenese food.”
Daruma is a neighborhood gem for authentic Japenese food! The ambience is also very cool, complete with a small koi pond and tatami rooms for a traditional experience. We always enjoy the sushi here, but the tonkotsu ramen and niku udon are highlights as well. We also recently tried the daikon salad. It was a little different than what we were expecting, but was still delicious and a fun surprise. I also recommend trying the Japanese spaghetti, as it is described as a Japanese comfort food. You can order a half portion of this as well. One of my favorite spots whenever I’m in the area!

“This place is excellent.”
This place is excellent! The food is excellent and so is the staff. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The sashimi is very fresh. For that matter everything we ate was fresh. The staff helped us pick out items from the menu and suggested that we let the sushi chef make some selections for us, Wonderful. Fried noodles were very tasty as was the curry with fried pork. The edamame was wonderfully cooked with the right amount of salt. The kids loved it so much that we ordered it twice. We will be back here for sure. Can't wait to try more items on the menu

UGH!! This place. I wish I could afford it more often. It was so delicious. The sashimi melted in my mouth. It was so fresh. The maki rolls were also so yummy. Rice perfectly seasoned with not too many sauces. I’ve been craving the soba ever since I’ve had it. The teriyaki chicken was also so yummy. Buttery, rich, delicious. Not too sweet and cooked perfectly without being burned. The servers were all super attentive and nice. Accommodated perfectly without bothering us. It’s an amazing place for special occasions. Birthdays, anniversaries, etc. not your everyday easy dinner though.

“Hole in the wall.”
Hole in the wall! The exterior of this restaurant does not reflect the interior, food quality, and service of this place. Honestly, every item on the menu is really good! Lots of Japanese folk come in here, and most of them are regulars so you know they’re good. Coming back to try all the menu items for sure. Schaumburg area only has this and Torizen for really good, and authentic Japanese food.

“The restaurant itself is beautiful, with authentic designs, and even a Koi pond.”
The restaurant itself is beautiful, with authentic designs, and even a Koi pond. The service was quick and attentive throughout. All of the amazing waiters and waitresses were very kind and were always keeping our glasses filled. The food itself was spectacular. Truly amazing and authentic tasting dishes with American sized portions! Someone may argue that the pricing is a little high, but when you see the plate in front of you, you definitely know that you’ll be getting some leftovers. Overall, I highly recommend this place. I’m glad that they were able to maintain a high-level of quality staff and maintain the excellent atmosphere throughout the years.

The food was really good and fresh tasting, the experience really made me think about what I like about Japanese food, often there's little touches or subtlety in the flavors and food that you might miss if you don't take a second to appreciate. I highly recommend the spaghetti, I was going to go to the pizza place in this plaza for spaghetti but this place has many great reviews for their spaghetti for a reason, it's really delicious. The tempura set was good as well, the vegetables and shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce was a great compliment to the tempura. I def will be coming back for more. Please note there's a time game between lunch and dinner and both lunch and dinner have separate menus. Edit: I came back for the black garlic ramen and crab croquettes and they were amazing. I'm really looking forward to trying out the lunch menu but as a night shift worker, it's hard to make it there on time, they only have it 4 days a week and only 2.5 hours a day.
