Oriole — top-tier fine dining in West Loop. The atmosphere does most of the heavy lifting. If you drink, start at the bar.

“Creative, perfectly executed, and something you truly have to experience for yourself”
I am honestly not sure what the hype of this restaurant is about. We found the food to be overall quite bland.

Coming straight from The French Laundry, I was curious whether Oriole could meet that same level of service and culinary excellence—and wow, it absolutely did. From start to finish, the experience was off the charts. The service was flawless, thoughtful, and genuinely warm. Every detail felt intentional. And the food? Incredible. Creative, perfectly executed, and something you truly have to experience for yourself. I can’t say enough good things about this place. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back.

I've found that with restaurants the quality almost goes up exponentially with price as long as you're careful with where you go. This is the most expensive restaurant I've been to, it's twice the price of the 1-star I went to in Chicago a year ago, but it's at least four times as good (and 1* El Ideas was terrific!). It's a bit more expensive than 2* Acquerello in SF but even better of an experience (both are highlights of my life). I'll add to this review later but of the 17 courses, 14 were one of the best things I've ever eaten (other 3 were merely very good), the n/a pairing is fantastic, and I don't think there's a better way to spend time or money than this. Two dishes straight up made me cry

“What an outstanding place.”
What an outstanding place! Everything was just perfect to the last little detail. Starting with a cup of tea and surprising entrance! Going through different "stations" watching the way some courses are prepared was such an amazing treat for the eyes. Every detail of every dish was just made to perfection. Not only a taste but also a visual presentation . There is not enough words to describe the feeling, you just have to visit and experience yourself !

“Exquisite service, food, and atmosphere.”
Exquisite service, food, and atmosphere. Very detail is attentive as you are guided around the dining space to explore the food at various destinations within the space. Would recommend: the non alcoholic tea pairing with food. Favorites: any of the fresh fish dishes and the turbot with dill sauce.

“Amazing service and food.”
Amazing service and food. They made me feel so welcome as a lone diner and I enjoyed every minute I was there, especially getting to see the chefs at work. I just which I had a second stomach to be able to eat even more of their fantastic food!

Friendly and attentive service steal the show at Oriole - the food doesn’t disappoint either. Really appreciated the complimentary beverage pairings with the first few courses & of course loved staple dishes like the capellini with truffle & caraway seeds. Great experience, would recommend.

“Service was amazing.”
Service was amazing! Atmosphere and ambience was amazing! We loved the first couple courses. The last couple can be quite salty due to the type of protein they sourced from

“Incredible dinner.”
Incredible dinner. Service was impeccable. Jake the bartender gets a special shoutout for being such a great mixologist and riffing on some incredible cocktails. We went for my birthday and my boyfriend’s birthday and recognizing some of the farms they get their produce at and knowing they source extremely locally is incredible. We loved it.

“The vibe at this place was almost like a speakeasy.”
The vibe at this place was almost like a speakeasy. Hidden away behind an old school elevator, we were first given an amuse at the bar, then another bite at a table by the kitchen, before being led to our table. The table was huge! Almost as big as a table you see at dim sum places. This spaciousness along with ample spaces in between tables created a very relaxed and intimate atmosphere. The food was amazing overall. We loved how creative the dishes were while being absolutely delicious. The earlier courses were on the sweet side and could use some editing to rein that in a bit. My favorite was the pasta course. I tried the spirit free pairing, and the drinks were just as creative and tasty as the courses. I’d highly recommend it. Overall a really great meal!

It's kinda hard to describe a restaurant like this without the massive disclaimer that you're really going on an experience that's more than just going for food. I haven't been to a Michelin restaurant of this caliber so my expectations were fairly tempered going in. I gotta say, I am thoroughly impressed and blown away with the whole experience, I really haven't ever had this level of hospitality or care in a restaurant. If you've wondered what a fine dining experience is like within an upper echelon restaurant I highly suggest trying Oriole at least once in your life, as it's truly an unforgettable experience and easily the most memorable dining experience I've ever had.

“I would tell you the food at Oriole is fantastic but that's the least surprising thing I could say.”
I would tell you the food at Oriole is fantastic but that's the least surprising thing I could say. I used to not understand what people meant when they said fine dining is more about the experience than the food. Service tonight made it all click for me. As we stepped back into the dim alley, it no longer felt as eerie. Hidden from the bustling streets of West Loop exists one of Chicago's finest culinary experiences, where glowing warmth and hospitality saturate the entire space with nothing short of magic.
