La Nonna — solid, no-fuss food in Avondale. Tight but comfortable, like someone's living room. You're greeted like a regular, even the first time, and BYOB. Lu De: "Our table of 2 split the Deluxe Parillada, and every item was perfectly cooked and well seasoned"

“The food is phenomenal, we ordered the milanesa and a french baguette both were huge specially the milanesa and the flavor was even bigger, nicely covered by cheese and a healthy amount of fries”
Empanada had a nice crust with a good filling. The sauce given on the side with the empanada was great.
Unfortunately, the service here really overshadowed the food.
No no absolutely no. Customer was amazing but the food was horrible. I ordered the platter for two.

La Nonna is incredibly cozy, incredibly affordable, and incredibly delicious. Our table of 2 split the Deluxe Parillada, and every item was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. BYOB. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. If driving, there is non permit parking by the church across the street.

“La Nonna is an absolute gem in Irving Park.”
La Nonna is an absolute gem in Irving Park. We tried a little bit of everything — from the melty, irresistible provoleta and flavorful empanadas (beef, ham & cheese with veggies) to the fresh garden salad with steak and a charcuterie board special. My veggie burger was huge and delicious, perfectly paired with sweet potato fries, while the crispy fried chicken sandwich with freshly cut fries and the breaded lime chicken with vegetables were both hits at the table. The Noona pizza was another standout, and dessert was the perfect ending — rich leche flan and a heavenly dulce de leche crepe. The staff was genuinely friendly, the service warm, and the cozy atmosphere made the meal even better. Truly a neighborhood treasure we can’t wait to revisit.

“Out of all the authentic food I’ve had in Chicago, the flavor of the empanadas and the milanesa...”
Out of all the authentic food I’ve had in Chicago, the flavor of the empanadas and the milanesa here is 100% the same as in any restaurant in Buenos Aires. I’ve been to other places in Chicago, but it’s just not the same. Keep it up!

“Such a good place.”
Such a good place! We ordered a beef empanada which was super crispy yet light and flavorful. For my steak sandwich, it was juicy and was delicious. The fries even impressed me as they have this seasoning on them that elevates the fries. We ordered their cake of the week and it was Tres Leches and it was amazing. They have a small dinning area but they also have more seating outside and the atmosphere is very welcoming and aesthetically pleasing. Will definitely come back again!

“Beyond delicious.”
Beyond delicious. My husband couldn’t stop talking about the steak. I had the burger and one of our friends had the chicken sandwich- he did note that it had great flavor and crunch but it wasn’t spicy. Smaller place, cozy feel.

“The food was delicious and the service was great.”
The food was delicious and the service was great. Went for a late lunch. It took a few minutes but the food came out freshly prepared. The potatoes were delicious and the chicken was served right. The steak seemed a little overcooked but still tasty. The ham and cheese empanada made for a nice treat. And their espresso was amazing.

Was craving something new and this place was recommended to me so I had to check it out! The beef and the chicken empanadas are fantastic! Super filling too. Don’t forget the oil with herbs it makes it *chefs kiss*! The side of sweet potato fries could have been a meal on its own, it’s a big portion! When I got there it was a calm atmosphere with a few people and later in the night it filled up and got lively with a lot of people sharing and enjoying the food. Looks like they have outdoor seating in the summer too. Great place!

“We found this family restaurant on our way to downtown Chicago from ORD.”
We found this family restaurant on our way to downtown Chicago from ORD. Such a homy treasure hidden in a nice neighborhood. The steak omelet was spiced so beautifully, I decided I had to leave a review. I’m a bit conflicted, because I so enjoyed the warm quiet atmosphere that I’d hate to come back on a next trip into Chicago (which I definitely will) and find it crowded, but if that were to happen, I can only say it would be deserved.

“Delicious empanadas and grilled meats.”
Delicious empanadas and grilled meats. Wish they at least had some beers, but no alcohol is served here. They also have a cute little patio outside that looked perfect for summer. Parking was weird - it’s in a neighborhood where everything requires a permit. But we went for dinner and didn’t get a ticket.

“Go to spot in the neighborhood.”
Go to spot in the neighborhood. Hands down the best empanadas in the chi! The sandwiches are always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal! Servers are also great. Dogs are welcome for outdoor seating.
