Ken Kee Restaurant Hong Kong — straightforward chinese in Chinatown. Polished but not pretentious. Not your typical menu, in a good way, and quick and efficient. "Spicy Beef Tripe: this dish was not spicy at all and tasted like Chinese medicine; however" — Kit *

“We also tried the pork dumplings, which looked steamed but were actually pan-fried and delicious—crispy outside, juicy inside”
Went here after a friend recommended it. Whole table was disappointed in the food.
We have not been to Ken Kee for at least 10 years and we decided to try them out again and it was a mistake.
Black pepper short ribs were so rubbery that I couldn’t even finish a single bite.

“Ken Kee Restaurant is consistently excellent.”
Ken Kee Restaurant is consistently excellent. I’ve been here many times, and every visit has been just as good as the last. The broth is rich, clean, and deeply flavorful you can tell it’s made with care and patience. The fish balls are springy and full of flavor, the wontons are silky and generously filled, and the braised beef tendon is tender and melts in your mouth. Everything in the bowl works perfectly together: savory, comforting, and deeply satisfying. It’s rare to find a place that stays this consistent over time, and Ken Kee does it effortlessly. I’ll keep coming back.

“I went to Ken Kee with my Uncle.”
I went to Ken Kee with my Uncle. I dragged him with me because I saw this place on Instagram and it did not disappoint me at all. He got the special for $10. With the special he got the Brisket Ramen and The Hot Lemon Tea. He said he enjoyed the ramen. I should have got it because it was the exact Size as my build-A-Ramen. I put bokchow, canteen noodles, boiled eggs, spicy beef broth(must try) and I added spices from the table. It was super flavorful and more than enough. Two people can share the ramen. I got the shrimp fried rice which they prepared perfectly. I also got the garlic green beans which was pretty good. It was definitely a lot of food but I wanted to try it all and I had enough to take home for the next day. I’m returning because they have a pretty long menu I want to try. Thanks

“I made my own noodle bowl: egg noodle, dumplings, bbq pork belly & bok choy.”
I made my own noodle bowl: egg noodle, dumplings, bbq pork belly & bok choy. Loved their bbq pork and freshly made dumplings. Pro tip: Don’t get the +2 crazy spicy like I did. I ALMOST DIED. Lol. I was crying so hard. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

“Low frills but great flavor and value.”
Low frills but great flavor and value! Items we ordered as of 8/2025 - Crab Rangoon (4) - 6.95 - Very thick and fully filled with cream cheese. I love crab rangoons and this was definitely a hit with me. - BBQ Pork Belly Rice Bowl w/ Sunny Side Up Egg - $12.95 - DELICIOUS! The pork belly was tender and had a perfect balance of fat to lean meat. Value wise this was a no brainer. 100% would order this again. - Szechuan Boiled Fish Fillet - $17.95 - VERY Mala so if that's your jam then get this! The quantity was superb for the price. Overall we were quite happy with our food and would gladly come back to try their other dishes!

“A Hidden Gem in Chicago’s Chinatown This Hong Kong-style restaurant popped up on my For You page...”
A Hidden Gem in Chicago’s Chinatown This Hong Kong-style restaurant popped up on my For You page on TikTok, and I’m so glad it did. It’s truly a gem in Chicago’s Chinatown. The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming, and the food is just as good as it looks. I stopped by for their teatime deal, available from 2 to 5 PM, and ended up ordering multiple times because it was that good. I tried the beef brisket with handmade noodles and paired it with an iced milk tea with coffee. The meal was delicious, and the noodles exceeded my expectations. The milk tea with coffee, recommended by the server, was a pleasant and refreshing surprise. Before leaving, I couldn’t resist trying a dessert from Chui Quan Bakery. This collaboration is a match made in Chi-Town heaven. I had the pineapple bun with butter and the Hong Kong-style French toast. Both offered a unique balance of savory and sweet, perfect for a midday treat. I highly recommend stopping by to experience this teatime for yourself. The atmosphere, food, and beverages are all worth the visit.

“I miss Hong Kong food and this spot is the perfect spot.”
I miss Hong Kong food and this spot is the perfect spot. The nostalgic bold neon signs along with building your own cart noodles, it’s the perfect way to be back in HK without being there. The service is quick and efficient.

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ken Kee is a refreshingly solid spot for Hong Kong-style Cantonese food—definitely better...”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ken Kee is a refreshingly solid spot for Hong Kong-style Cantonese food—definitely better than most in its category. We were seated within 5 minutes, and the place is clean, well-organized, and has a welcoming vibe. Chinese/Cantonese spots can sometimes go overboard with sweetness, salt, or soy sauce, but Ken Kee strikes a really nice balance. We ordered the Singapore Style Rice Vermicelli and the Cantonese Combination Chow Mein. The vermicelli could’ve used more meat, and the texture wasn’t quite my favorite, but flavor-wise it held up well. I switched to lo mein and while I wish the noodles had been a bit thicker, the dish was still very satisfying. We also tried the pork dumplings, which looked steamed but were actually pan-fried and delicious—crispy outside, juicy inside. Their milk tea was excellent: creamy, strong, and just the right amount of sweet. One of the best parts is the sheer variety—tons of options to explore, which makes this place feel like a real win for curious diners. Will definitely be back to try more!

“We were looking for a spot to grab lunch when my friend recommended this restaurant.”
We were looking for a spot to grab lunch when my friend recommended this restaurant. At first, I was a little hesitant—the menu is huge, and places with large menus can sometimes be hit or miss. But to our surprise, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and the portions were incredibly generous for the price. We got two mains and a small egg drop soup, which ended up being more than enough food. We didn’t have any leftovers—not because the portions were small, but because everything was so good we couldn’t stop eating. The standout for us was the egg drop soup. It felt like an elevated take on the version you'd find at similar spots—rich, comforting, and full of flavor. Next time I’m in Chinatown, I’m definitely coming back to try more dishes. Everything we saw on the menu sounded tempting, and the flavors were impressively complex—not just compared to other spots in the neighborhood, but to Chinese food I’ve had elsewhere in the city. Plus, at around $35 for two mains and a side, it’s a deal that’s hard to beat in Chicago.
