“Family-friendly place and great for going with friends. The pies are amazing, and the mac and cheese is very good too. Pleasant atmosphere.”

“Came in on a Saturday night and ended up seated at the bar. It was a bit slower since we came later in the evening (we had walked by earlier and it was absolutely packed), and our bartender Jason provided exceptional service. He checked up on us often, talked with us about Star Wars, explained different beers and alcohol flavors, and was genuinely so friendly and welcoming. He really made the experience memorable. The food was incredible; apparently the pub has a Michelin star, which honestly made total sense after eating here. We ordered the deluxe gravy chips, scotch egg, pub burger, sticky toffee pudding, and the steak and ale pie with a “crown” (mash and gravy). Everything was delicious. The fries smothered in gravy were rich and comforting, the steak in the pie was tender and juicy, and the crust was pleasantly doughy. The mashed potatoes were super smooth and complemented the dish so well. The pub burger tasted fresh and flavorful, and the scotch egg had an amazing texture with a mustard that paired perfectly with it. The sticky toffee pudding was probably my favorite part of the meal; warm, moist, rich without being overly sweet, and honestly one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while. The atmosphere of the pub was really pleasant and cozy. Overall, such a wonderful experience and I’ll definitely be coming back.”

“Great little pub serving up excellent British style meat pies. Scotch eggs is great as well. Fine assortment of imported / domestic beers. Would highly recommend. The reservation website made it seem like it would be busier than it would be, but I still recommend making reservations.”

“Went for dinner before a show at Thalia Hall . Seated promptly. Great atmosphere and nice range of choices on the menu. Opted for one of their famous pies . It was absolutely delicious. Got some mashed potatoes and peas to go along with it and they were also wonderful. Great beer selection . Friendly and prompt service and easy street parking.”

“Exceptional establishment. Came as a solo diner; felt welcomed as soon as I stepped in. The staff had personality and flair - helping me to not only choose my meal, but also gave me tips for exploring Chicago - which in turn lead to some interesting discussions around the history of house music! I had the steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes and gravy. As an Australian, I don’t give 5 stars for such matters lightly. Had a Guinness on the side and it was bueno. They were playing great music the entire time, literally nothing to fault at this place. I’ll be back.”

“it can be a little hard finding parking, but the food makes it worth it. i’ve never really had an british-style breakfast so this was a new but pleasant experience. the sauce on the curry chips was really good. i also really liked the mushroom and kale pie. it can feel a little dry at times so i wish i got it with the mash”

“One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Scotch egg and the steak pie both looked too good to eat and tasted out of this world. The rarebit was super good too. Our was great and friendly and the environment is so comfy and cute. 10/10!”

“I try to visit The Pleasant House As much as possible! Food, staff & service top notch!”
