Three Happiness Restaurant

3.91,383 reviews ·Opens at 12

Three Happiness is a longtime Chinatown Cantonese staple prized for generous, flavorful portions and no-frills charm. Regulars return for beef fried rice, salt-and-pepper squid or shrimp, Chinese broccoli with garlic sauce, eggrolls, and beef noodle soup—making it a reliable choice for family meals or casual group dining. Service experiences vary widely, with several reviews citing rude interactions, uncomfortable tip pressure, and occasional food-quality concerns.

I had the jumbo shrimp fried rice and it was good. My wife had the mushu pork and it was so-so. I’m glad it is still a staple of Chinatown.

Whenever we are in the city we try to make it out here. We go here maybe once or twice a year. It hits different now coming here with our kid vs 20 years ago coming here after a night of clubbing with friends drunk and hungry 😀. The food is still very good though. Our go to order then and now is still beef fried rice, salt&pepper squid and chinese broccoli in garlic sauce (because you gotta get your veggies in). Still had leftovers too. Other reviews on here saying it's the worst Chinese food they've ever had - they're ordering the wrong thing, just kidding. But really we love the place and the staff was very nice.

Cute Cantonese place with absolutely delicious food! I got the beef noodle soup and absolutely loved it. The portions sizes are great! My server was super friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back soon! Thank you!

you’re looking for authentic, no-frills Chinese food in Chicago’s Chinatown, Three Happiness Restaurant on Cermak is one of those classic spots that’s been holding it down for years. It’s not fancy—and that’s honestly part of the charm. The food is where this place shines. Dishes come out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor, with generous portions that definitely give you your money’s worth. Favorites like orange chicken, fried rice, and egg foo young are consistently good, and the menu has that old-school Cantonese feel that’s getting harder to find. The vibe is very “hole-in-the-wall”—small, a little worn, and nothing polished—but if you care more about taste than aesthetics, it works. Service is usually quick and straightforward, which makes it a great spot for a casual meal or late-night bite. It’s also a longtime Chinatown staple, known for serving authentic Chinese dishes at affordable prices and even being open late, which adds to its reputation among locals. Overall, Three Happiness isn’t about presentation—it’s about solid, satisfying food. If you go in expecting a simple, old-school Chinese restaurant with big portions and bold flavor, you’ll leave happy.

My first time trying this place. I got a large shrimp fried rice with extra onions no bean sprouts. It was okay. Except like many of the other reviews when you ask for extra onions they only dumped on top of your order. Not throughout.
