“Kurumaya is one of the best authentic Japanese restaurants in Chicago area. The qualities, volume, service and prices are more than outstanding😍😍😍 Especially prices of lunch menus are impressive like in Japan 🇯🇵 Staffs work hard and friendly enough. Highly recommended!!!”

“You can’t go wrong with anything here. It’s one of the few places that offers a genuine taste of everyday Japanese food. 「なんでも美味しい。日本のスタンダードが味わえる数少ない店。」”

“This place transported me back to Japan. The sushi platter and my Tonkatsu meal was delicious and presentation was beautiful. My server gave me a slice of Japanese pound cake which was a sweet gesture. Will be back!”

“Really enjoyed the food here! We started off with trying a bunch of apitizers. The omelette, gyoza, and agadashi tofu were favorites of the tables. The udon soup with tofu and fish cakes was delicious, you could tell how fresh the noodles were. The Katsu Curry while not well listed on the main menu was also super tasty. Will happily come back to try more things off of the menu.”

“Absolutely delicious! Love the udon and broth, bouncy noodles, crunchy katsu and savory takoyaki)”

“I had an excellent experience here. Staff was very friendly, the food came out quickly and tasted great, portion sizes were good, especially for the price. We ordered the chicken Kara-age and tempura appetizer to share. The chicken was very juicy and the tempura batter was crispy and light. I had the katsu curry lunch special for my entre. The curry was very flavorful. I would have liked it to be a litfle spicy, but that's just me. The cutlet was crispy and juicy and was great with the curry. My friend had the salmon lunch bento and really enjoyed it as well. For 2 lunch sets and 2 appetizers, we spent just about $20 per person before tax and tip.”

“初見でした。 入店しても放置で驚きましたが、壁のノートに人数を記入して待つしきたりでした、勉強不足💦 料理は美味しい、店員さん気さくで親切、バレンタインデーは客足が多過ぎたみたいで、次はステラ満点だと思います。”

“Kurumaya is a very unique place to enjoy authentic Japanese food. It is not fancy at all, which honestly adds to its charm. The focus here is clearly on authenticity, quality and flavor. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. On Saturdays, there is usually a wait time of about 20 to 30 minutes, particularly before 1 pm. Make sure to add your name to the waitlist located at the entrance when you arrive! Service is fast overall, although sushi orders can take a bit longer. The food quality is excellent. I cannot recommend the udon soup enough. Even though it is very simple and comes without fancy toppings, the flavor is deep, comforting, and very fulfilling. It is especially perfect during winter. The gyozas are also really tasty and always a good choice. We usually order the katsu curry, served with miso soup, rice, pickled onions, and salad. The portion is large and can easily be shared between two people. That said, if you have a big appetite, it can absolutely be enjoyed by one person. Most importantly, it is truly delicious. Overall, Kurumaya is a wonderful spot for authentic Japanese food, and we always enjoy coming back.”
