I walked in at 5 and got a table immediately but the restaurant filled up quickly. I got the mexicana roll and a half roll of surf and turf. Both were melt in mouth amazing. The lychee martini was also very tasty. The staff was very nice. Looking forward to my next visit.

Umai is a hidden gem in Chicago! The atmosphere is sleek yet relaxed — perfect for a dinner date, night out with friends, or solo sushi fix. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I tried a variety of sashimi, and every single one was fresh, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. The fish was high quality and melted in my mouth. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get, and they have a great drink selection too. Umai definitely earns a spot on my go-to list for sushi in Chicago.

Came here on Memorial Day with a group of 6 and they got us in within 20 minutes, which was pretty solid. Saw their chef special had mentaiko ramen and umi—unfortunately, they were out of the umi, which kinda sucked. But the ramen? So good. Super creamy and rich—if you’re into carbonara vibes or pasta dishes, you’ll definitely like this one. Not sure how long it’ll be on the menu though. I also got the yuzu sour. It was alright—tasted a bit watered down, but it still hit.

We used to come here when it was the previous restaurant at this location and the service is loads better than it was! Our server was so sweet and kind and everything was brought out quickly! The food was good! We did some ramens and rolls with some appetizers for my birthday and we had a wonderful experience

“This is a great spot to grab a bite with friends.”

This is a great spot to grab a bite with friends! Walked in with a small group and was seated immediately. Cool vibes in the spot with high ceilings makes it feel like you’re away from home. The sweet potato sushi was tasty and a large roll. Fair prices for the area. Great location by the blue line too.
