“Life changing, and a must visit. Layers of flavors that uncover themselves after each bite, they like to have fun with their dishes and it shows. Service was perfect. Zero headaches. I will be back.”

“I have no photos of the food to upload. I immersed myself in the experience and enjoyed it thoroughly. The experience was reminiscent of some of the Michelin starred meals I've had. The menu was planned to be a cohesive Japanese-French fusion experience. I cannot think of anything either my husband or I found lackluster. Please be aware that in addition to the food, the prices are luxurious, and they will want a CC on file. My husband booked us for the meal in advance and we split the alcohol tasting, added on last minute, in person. I believe without the tip it was ~$250/person. And, similar to other Chicago restaurants there was an optional 4% charge included in the final bill. Location note: The place is a hidden gem on floor 2 of the athletic club building-- walk inside the front doors and take the 1st set of stairs or the 1st elevator on your right. Then, go just past the reception area on your right and turn right. Mido's lobby is tucked away right there with the restaurant doors on the right; and, they keep the doors closed until it's time to start. It is quite small with just 10 or so seats, so a reservation is a MUST. Since it is an experience they will have you wait in the lobby area until they are ready to begin. This restaurant is about the experience as much as the meal. Each plate was described at presentation and seemingly all of the staff were friendly, and open to questions & discussion. The menu is seasonal, with around 4 changes a year. We were there April 4, 2026 and they were saying the menu might turn over in 2 weeks or so. So, please keep that in mind when viewing pics of the menu. My husband and I loved the meal & experience. We had no complaints. Hence, 5 stars.”

“Every bite punched me in the face in a really good way. I loved the staff, the experience and the taste above all. It was worth every cent. My death row meal would be that mushroom experience again.”

“Intimate, a little zen... yet joyous. The atmosphere. The staff. The food. The drink pairings. Midōsuji was 👨🍳😘 - 🥣 Chawanmushi - caviar, cauliflower, buttermilk mussel sauce 🍄🍵 Shitake tempura & tea - bonito cream, burnt allium 🐟 Hamachi - sunchoke, miyoga, yuzu 🦀 Jonah crab cake - horseradish, melon, miso egg yolk 🍣 Kampachi - sesame, preserved lemon 🍥 Tuna handroll - scallion, fermented jalepeño 🍤 Shrimp handroll - daikon kimchi, shiso 🥘 Parmesan risotto - black truffle, chestnut 🦆 Dry aged sansho pepper duck breast - ginger, huckleberry, citrus jus 🍏❄️ Kakigori - apple, shiso 🍫 Gold chocolate - sobacha, honey”
“The epitome of unreasonable hospitality they went above and beyond in every way from the food to their service. The first course had me grinning ear to ear. The courses that followed were nothing short of fantastic, and as full as I am I would happily stay seated for their next time slot. After the course ended Kayla one of the servers happily catered to me and gave me a pin. This is easily one of the best meals in chicago.”
“My wife and I have knocked out most of the restaurants on the Michelin list here in Chicago, and in our travels have been to many incredible restaurants. Midōsuji, however, wins our award for best restaurant of 2025. Every dish was imaginative and innovative, and they hit every single course out of the park! The service, incredible. The venue, intimate. Honestly, I can't wait for them to get their star... they're THAT good!”
“An excellent experience. Chef's are interactive, staff nice, knowledgeable and attentive. The combination of raw and cooked omakase experience we really love. Food and cocktails are excellent.”
“We loved the experience at Midosuji. Really beautiful building and cozy atmosphere and great service. Since it’s still early in its opening, we would love to suggest expanding on this menu to include more varieties of handrolls and appetizers and sake. Between 2 of us, we tried most of the whole menu already in one visit. Handrolls were also a tiny bit on the salty side for me.”
“The service was kind and personable, and the venue is unique and intimate. The food and cocktails just weren't my jam - a little bland and derivative. BUT, it is early in the life of this restaurant, they may do some risk-tasking and recognize fortune favors the bold. There were some glimmers of talent with the rock shrimp handroll.”
“Extraordinarily overpriced inferior portioned fusion food. The taste is not terrible or anything but the price is three or four times higher than it should be. Having actually lived on the midosuji for fifteen years, I can say no self respecting Osakan would ever pay for this. To the bizarre claims that omakase needs sushi, you are lost and should never open your mouths again. This restaurant is absolutely omakase, and sushi has nothing at all to do with that. I don't penalize them for that. I'm just a cheap Osaka boy.”
