TAWAKKUL RESTAURANT — neighborhood indian in Devon Avenue. It gets busy, and that's part of the appeal. Honest, uncompromised flavors throughout. Open late. Explorer: "The other dishes were flavorful, fresh, and well-prepared too"

“One of the best and authentic Hyderabadi style food, Unlike typical Indian restaurants, the taste is especial to talk for, the atmosphere is Ok, service could be better but it can be negated with the quality of food you get here”

“Tawakkul Restaurant, Chicago is pure Hyderabadi soul food.”
Tawakkul Restaurant, Chicago is pure Hyderabadi soul food. Tried the tahari, mutton biryani, and haleem, and the haleem + tahari absolutely stole the show. Deep flavors, perfectly cooked, and insanely satisfying. The service was on point, warm and welcoming, and the whole experience straight-up felt like Hyderabad. If you know, you know. This spot is a must for anyone chasing real Hyderabadi taste in Chicago.

“Food was so so so good.”
Food was so so so good! Ordered online and I must say it was worth it. The veg noodles and haleem are top tier I’m about to become a regular here. These 2 items are definitely worth a try especially the noodles they have the same flavor and masala as Indian street food which I love, can’t find that much around here. The service I say was also pretty good but the server on the phone did sound a bit rude and was trying to just end the call it seemed. Overall I’d give it 4/5 mostly for the food.

“Hands down to the best BIRYANI here in USA.”
Hands down to the best BIRYANI here in USA. Had Goat biryani with Goat haleem,Chicken 65 and they tasted ammmmazing. Highly recommend this place when you’re in Chicago. Friendly staff,It’s bit difficult to find a table as the dine inn is small and always crowded, be prepared to expect some wait time. Added some of my snaps from this place.

One of the best and authentic Hyderabadi style food, Unlike typical Indian restaurants, the taste is especial to talk for, the atmosphere is Ok, service could be better but it can be negated with the quality of food you get here. Feels like back in hometown whenever I’m here. Chilli chicken tastes good but the food coloring can be reduced. Marag is amazing here, Their biryanis are awesome be it Chicken or Mutton. The dal(lenthil) is also good. Talwa gosh is mind blowing when eaten with Chapathi.

“The best biryani in the USA.”
The best biryani in the USA. Been here so many times. Never disappoints. Chapati 🫓 is good as well with kadai chicken. Place is a little smaller but taste of the food you get dominates. Staff is welcoming too

“This place is awesome.”
This place is awesome. Went for Tehari and it did not disappoint. They only have it on Tuesdays I have to try the special next time which features mutton fry on top. Very good and fresh. The chicken 65 was awesome too. Would not have thought to come here, but my guy turned us on to it and they delivered. Takes a little while to come out after ordering because they were busy, but well worth the wait. I highly recommend.

“This is as authentic and as Hyderabadi as a restaurant can get.”
This is as authentic and as Hyderabadi as a restaurant can get. Though the vicinity has some tough competition, this restaurant certainly stands out. I have tried almost their entire menu and I must say they’re this 🤏🏻 close to mastering it but there are a few inconsistencies when it comes to the food. For instance the biryani varies a lot and the tahari isn’t that great. The staff is very friendly and they are willing to rectify if there’s anything that wasn’t done right and they certainly check the box for service.

“Me and my friends were visiting Chicago, so we tried this restaurant and overall it turned out to be a good spot to try.”
Me and my friends were visiting Chicago, so we tried this restaurant and overall it turned out to be a good spot to try. The mutton appetizer ( Talawa Gosht ) was very flavorful, with tender meat that really stood out. The chicken and gobi appetizers were not that great, and the food coloring could be toned down a bit. The paneer biryani felt more like paneer fried rice, but the flavor and taste were still good. On the other hand, the chicken biryani was spot on and came very close to authentic Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani. When it comes to desserts, they truly shine. While the double ka meetha was quite disappointing, the fruit and dry fruit truffle was absolutely AMAZING and a definite must-try. Overall, it’s a good place for food with several standout dishes. With a little more attention to hygiene, this restaurant could be even better.

“Went here for a late-night dinner around 11pm, and it was surprisingly busy for that time of the day.”
Went here for a late-night dinner around 11pm, and it was surprisingly busy for that time of the day. We ordered the Chicken 65 and Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani. The biryani was definitely on the greasier side, but taste-wise, it was absolutely mind-blowing. Honestly reminded me of the ones I’ve had back home in Hyderabad, so major points for that. They had fried chicken pieces on top, which I felt were a bit extra, but still good. The Chicken 65 had great flavor too (again a little greasy) and was slightly low on salt for my liking, but overall, it was decent and enjoyable. For dessert, I personally wanted the Kaddu ki Kheer. It was not bad, but not amazing too. I’ve had better ones before. The server strongly recommended we try their Fruit Trifle. Even though we were already stuffed, we just ordered it and wow, I’m glad we did. It was creamy, rich, and just packed with all the fruity, custardy goodness. I legit couldn’t stop at just one bite. Definitely one of the best things. Service was quick. Nothing fancy in terms of ambience; it’s more of a casual place, but you can totally check it out for the food. Would recommend it if you’re craving Hyderabadi flavors in Chicago.

“Tawakkul’s a hidden gem on Devon—real homestyle vibes.”
Tawakkul’s a hidden gem on Devon—real homestyle vibes. Dropped about $20 on the chicken pulao and beef kebab roll. Pulao was solid, super flavorful, and the kebab had that smoky, char-grilled thing goin’ on. Food came out quick, but the naan wasn’t fully done—still doughy in the middle. That’s the only knock. Otherwise, service was friendly and prices fair. I’ll def be back to run it again.
