Le Bouchon — high-caliber french in Bucktown. Casual, established, and unapologetic about it. The kitchen takes tradition seriously. "The beet salad was incredible and savory, and we would order it again" — H.H.H

“I don’t think I’ll ever get over how delicious everything was.”
I don’t think I’ll ever get over how delicious everything was. This restaurant is so little and cute like being in your French grandmas house. It’s sooo homey and the entire staff is so kind. I will absolutely be coming back again and again. 10/10 experience!

“I don’t want to sound dramatic here….”
I don’t want to sound dramatic here…. But I would die for this place. My obsession for Le Bouchon is unmatched. The way this establishment has mastered and perfected French cuisine is remarkable. The place is very small but oh so mighty. Very well preserved and styled! Dishes I can’t go without having are escargots, frog legs and for entrees it definitely depends what they have available; oxtail, whole duck, lamb neck and the trout. Sometimes I do go a different route like last week for entrees I had the steaks and frites with the halibut which were both insane! Flavors and techniques here are impeccable. If someone I know loves food and have not dined here I make sure they visit immediately because this is a restaurant that everyone has to visit at least once.

We visited Le Bouchon for the first time tonight and it was an amazing experience! Our server, Marcel, was great. He guided us through the menu and helped us pick the best dishes to try. The Oxtail was amazing, the french onion soup was rich and terrific and the maple creme brulee was the perfect end to a meal. Definitely one of the best waiters I have had and the best French food I have had in Chicago.

“I visited Le Bouchon in Chicago’s Bucktown and was charmed by the cozy, Paris-style bistro vibe...”
I visited Le Bouchon in Chicago’s Bucktown and was charmed by the cozy, Paris-style bistro vibe with friendly staff and a wood-trimmed dining room that truly felt like an evening in Lyon. I tried classic French onion soup, escargot, moules à la provençale and steak frites—all were flavorful and well-executed, though I felt the steak au poivre was a bit heavy on sauce and some dishes lacked seasoning balance. The escargot and mussels stood out as the highlights, rich and buttery, while the steak was solid but not exceptional. Overall, it was delicious comfort-food with authentic bistro flair and a couple of minor quirks.

“Jean-Claude Poilevey is alive and well living in Le Bouchon.”
Jean-Claude Poilevey is alive and well living in Le Bouchon. His recipes are on the menu. His painting is on the wall. Thank goodness his sons continue these family traditions. For is exquisite. Prices very reasonable. I used to work for Jean-Claude at His namesake restaurant on Clark near Fullerton. He was a great man. I miss him. Eating at Le Bouchon brought back so many great memories.

AMAZING! I've been wanting to dine here for 7 years and finally secured a reservation. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. I ordered: Canapé: Razor clam. I never eat clams and it was delicious! My waiter suggested it, and he was so right. Don't sleep on the canapés and order 1 or 2. Starter/Salad: Morel mushrooms on toast. Incredible! I'd come back for this salad again. Entree: Truite Des Fjords en Croûte: Delicious! My friend ordered the steak frites Manion and loved it. Dessert: Foie Gras with strawberries. Incredible! I can't wait to return in the fall.

“Located in Bucktown, this charming French eatery drew us 3.2 miles from River North.”
Located in Bucktown, this charming French eatery drew us 3.2 miles from River North. Reservations are recommended since we had a 45min wait on a regular (i.e., non long weekend, non holiday) Friday at lunch! Complementary bread and butter accompaniements with our French onion soup and escargots starters were followed by main course of fish sandwich and steak. We'll be back to try the foie gras and duck comfit sometime but we had no space left even for dessert. All in all, a great experience.
