“For my birthday, we went out to get a nice steak dinner at Mon Ami Gabi.”
For my birthday, we went out to get a nice steak dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. We started out with a scallop that really got the dinner off right. With a nice glass of wine, you really get the base set for a delicious steak. I got the steak frites. The real highlight is the frites. I’m not sure what they do to the fries but they’re probably the best fries I’ve ever had with a steak. And the best part is that they’re celiac-friendly. For dessert, we finished it off a chocolate mousse. Overall, it made for a magical birthday dinner.

“Mon Ami always delivers an 'experience'.”
Mon Ami always delivers an 'experience'. When you walk in you enter another reality. The cozy intimacy and impeccable service are only second to their food. You will NEVER go wrong here, from date-night to impressing out-of-towner's it's money well-spent. I've been to many cozy bistros in Paris and Mon Ami is on par or greater.

délicieux! Visited on a Friday without a reservation and waited ~45 minutes on a table for 3. You can grab drinks from the bar and enjoy them in the building lobby while you wait. Loved the spacious patio. Mon Ami Gabi is on a quiet street, making its patio setting unique for Chicagoland restaurants. Service was exceptional. Some of the best I’ve seen in a while. Tried the baguette, oysters, shrimp cocktail, frisée and lardon salad, and hangar steak. Every dish was a hit, especially the frisée and lardon, such a unique flavor combination. One of the best I’ve tried in a while, would recommend for plenty of occasions.

“First time at Mon Ami Gabi — and definitely not the last.”
First time at Mon Ami Gabi — and definitely not the last! From the moment we arrived, the romantic yet casual ambiance set the perfect tone for the evening. Cozy lighting, charming bistro décor, and a relaxed atmosphere made it feel both special and comfortable. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely fantastic. We started with escargot in garlic-herb butter — rich, tender, and indulgent. The French onion soup was deeply flavorful, topped with that perfect cheesy crust. I ordered a non-alcoholic Paloma, which was light, refreshing, and beautifully balanced. The mussels in white wine broth were fresh and savory, the ratatouille was colorful and comforting, and the duck à l’orange stole the show — crisp skin, tender meat, and a tangy orange sauce that was spot-on. To end the meal, we shared the vanilla bean crème brûlée, and it was the perfect finish — creamy, rich, and delicately infused with real vanilla, with a crisp caramelized top that cracked beautifully with each spoonful. Honestly, the food here was better than some restaurants we’ve tried in Paris. Portions were generous, everything was cooked with care, and the entire experience felt like a little escape to France. Mon Ami Gabi is a gem — classic French cuisine, warm service, and a lovely setting. We’re already planning our return!

“We had a great meal with exceptional service.”
We had a great meal with exceptional service. The deviled eggs were incredible. The escargot was not a garlic soaked buttery mess but instead was more parsley forward than expected. It was surprising but was still very tasty. French onion soup was also good but in line with expectations. Entrees were the cod special and the beef bourguignon. Both were great. Desert was the Mille feuille which was the right level of sweet and was visually impressive as well. I regret not getting our server’s name because he was attentive, made great recommendations, and he did a fantastic job. This is a solid restaurant.

“Had a fantastic time at Mon Ami Gabi for Valentine's Day.”
Had a fantastic time at Mon Ami Gabi for Valentine's Day. Our waiter provided excellent service and excellent recommendations. For appetizers we got deviled eggs with bacon and caviar and small bucket of mussels. Deviled eggs were delicious the sauces and caviar really elevated a classic. The mussels were cooked to perfection and you really get like a pound of mussels. The broth/sauce the mussels came in was so good we were dipping bread in it and spooning it like a soup. If it had been socially acceptable I would have put it to my lips and chugged it. For our entrees, I got the Dover Sole and my girlfriend got Steak Frittes with the Bernaise sauce and she asked for a side of the Brandy/Peppercorn sauce too. The bernaise was very rich and classic while the brandy/peppercorn was a bit more complex and peppery. The Dover sole was crispy on the outside and flaky and moist in the middle, cooked to perfection. Some of the best fish I've had in a while. This is a great place to try Steak Frittes as they have 5 different sauces to choose from. They have lots of Steak options, almost as many as a Steakhouse. If you're looking for a more elegant meal they do have caviar and lobster. They had a Beef Wellington special that night that seemed popular. And they have an original recipe French chicken recipe that originally put them on the map that's supposed to be fantastic. It was difficult to choose which entree because everything sounded good. They have a wonderful dessert and coffee menu. We had a cafe alogatto and a cappuccino. We definitely want to go back, having been to Paris, this place nailed it.

“If you are looking for a french restaurant with a nice ambiance and great service, this is your place.”
If you are looking for a french restaurant with a nice ambiance and great service, this is your place. I had a delightful Friday night dinner experience with my hubby trying this place on Restaurant Week. We both enjoyed their French onion soup, i highly recommend it! I had the escargot - a bit salty for my taste. For the main dish, I had the mussels, and my husband had the pork chop, which is not in the usual menu (a special they have for restaurant week only). Both were fine. Tried their espresso Martini, I had better ones, though.

Excellently prepared fine French cuisine. Lovely atmosphere in a beautiful building. Perhaps the best baguette in a restaurant I've had outside of France. Wonderful and well trained staff that care deeply about providing a top level experience. Loved the steak tartare!

I had the pleasure of dining at Mon Ami Gabi, and I can honestly say it was an outstanding experience. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the stage for a memorable meal. The food was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The attention to detail was evident in every bite, from the perfectly cooked proteins to the expertly balanced seasonings. The service was equally impressive—attentive without being intrusive, and they made great recommendations from the menu. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for a great place to eat, I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a true gem!
