Cafe Robey pairs polished Art Deco hotel charm with a lively Wicker Park brunch scene, making it popular for groups, pre-theater meals, and relaxed breakfast dates. Regulars rave about the pancakes, French toast, shrimp and grits, duck pastrami, huevos rancheros on a tostada, specialty coffees, and genuine Aperol spritzes. It’s often packed, so waits and slower service—especially for larger parties—can happen.

Visiting from out of state and I'd had a few reviews of the cafe pop up on TikTok. It was only about a 10 minute walk from my airbnb so I decided to try it. I visited alone on a Saturday around 11:30 and it was pretty busy. Thankfully bar seating available and I was able to wait to sit, sit, and order in about 15 minutes (your experience may vary with group size + events). I orded the oatchata latte and the egg sandwich. The food maybe took 10 minutes to arrive and my server was very friendly and kept checking on me. The oatchata was really flavorful and sweet but not too sweet with a nice cinnamon flavor. The egg sandwich came out hot and with plenty of cheese. I think the egg was over easy and the yolk was runny, the sausage was cooked well and not dry, but I couldn't taste the caramelized onions but they were there. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I would definitely visit again if I came back to Chicago.

It was lovely here but I wish the service was a little better. We put in a reservation and stated there was a birthday and it wasn’t acknowledged really at all until the last minute by the host as we walked out :( Our server didn’t really introduce himself so it was confusing since we were approached by 3 different people at first (the host, the barista/bartender (?), and then our server). He seemed a little standoffish but I can assume since it was a just a little busy it wasn’t personal. Bottomless mimosas were 10/10! I’ve never seen a restaurant combine bottomless and mimosa kits ($30 per person, 90 minute limit, a full carafe of prosecco, and then juices of your choice to make your own. No waiting for a server to bring your next drink at all, and our server did refill our carafe before even having to ask! It was a great boozy brunch choice). Food was delicious. The shrimp and grits were creamy and so deliciously seasoned + a nice amount of spice. The chicken sandwich was alright! I added hot sauce and it was yummier, but I do wish the chicken was seasoned a little better and a little bigger. I ran out of meat to eat 3/4 of the way into the sandwich. I do also wish I got a bun that didn’t fall apart as I ate it :( It isn’t a particularly wet sandwich so it was a little annoying when my buns fell apart basically after the first bite. It was quite messy. The atmosphere was lovely though and we went home full, drunk, and pleased.

An excellent place for a pre-theater dinner that won't put you to sleep. We had French toast and shrimp and grits; the French toast reminded me of the famous version served on the Super Chief back in the day, and the shrimp and grits was garnished with pickled fennel and not too spicy. I would definitely go back again.

Café Robey is the best brunch in the neighborhood. The pancakes are a must for the table and let me put you in on a hack from one of the servers the huevos rancheros get them on a tostada and they are delicious! From the friendly faces at the host stand to the servers it is fhe place to be. Also they make Aperol spritzes with actual Aperol for some reason most places now use some other aperitivo instead and the Aperol spritzes don’t taste the same they also use fresh espresso for their espresso martinis and sometimes have a fun rotating coffee menu.
