“This was my first time in Glencoe to watch a show at Writer’s Theater, and I stopped by this place for a meal before the show. It seems to be the only Chinese restaurant in the entire town and also one of the few places both open at night and relatively affordable. My friend and I ordered the Walnut Shrimp Special and Sauteed Green Beans. We were told it would take 30 minutes, so we sat inside to wait, and the food came out right on time and piping hot. You can’t dine in the restaurant though, as they don’t have a dining license. 9 times out of 10, Chinese takeout will always hit for me, and Shanghai Garden was no exception. The green beans were flavorful and well-sauteed. The walnut shrimp had a nice crispy texture, tangy taste, and also came with broccoli and crispy noodle pieces. The portions are large for the price and they also included a large box of rice with our order. For just $15 per person, we had a good amount of leftovers. Overall great value, tasty food, generous portions, friendly service— I would love to return if I’m in the area again! — Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Ambience: N/A Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5”

“Take out food is pretty good, no complaints here. BUT you have to wait like 10 minutes for someone to come out of the kitchen to take your order even if there is no one else waiting. Not a deal breaker but sure is a pain.”
“Quiet hole in the wall spot with some of the best food in the area. The owner is kind and works really hard to make quality food. A lot of Chinese American restaurants can have a sort of mass produced feel and use the same suppliers but you can tell a lot of love and pride goes into the food here.”
“good place for takeout, service was fast and food was delicious!”
“Hands down, by far the best Chinese food around. The orange chicken and sesame beef were amazing.”
“The woman that runs it isn't exactly the most friendly but the 2 times I have done take away it has been delicious.”
