Orange Garden Restaurant — a chinese spot in North Center. Unpretentious and comfortable, exactly what you want, and easy on the wallet. Evelyn Ranney: "The beef teriyaki was good too, but the beef was almost too tender"

“9/17 - I have been going to this terrific Chinese restaurant since my grandparents took me there in the 1950’s”
Me and my mom and my daughter went there because I heard so much good things about it and it was very disappointing.
I ordered a vegetable egg roll( I thought it was 2 but it's only 1), it was okay, I do like the crispy exterior but it has more salt than I'll like.
I hate to say it but my dish was quite bad. I ordered the vegetable lo mein and it was unlike any I have ever had before.

“Update 4 years later: Even better in person.”
Update 4 years later: Even better in person! Their tofu dishes are so crispy and decadent. Love that they serve tofu in triangles! Still the best in the biz for egg rolls and homemade hot mustard. Delivery using their website—such large portions! Ordered Mongolian Beef for the first time just because of how good it looked in pictures. Tasted even better than I imagined. Split half-and-half with my boyfriend’s General Tso’s Chicken and Fried Rice. No wonder this place has been around since 1926!

“This place never disappoints.”
This place never disappoints! Best egg rolls and crab ragoon that I’ve found. Definitely get the sesame chicken. Cute little neighborhood Chinese spot that’s been here for years!

9/17 - I have been going to this terrific Chinese restaurant since my grandparents took me there in the 1950’s. Always great food and fast service. Anna and Julie are warm and friendly. 12/2 - Another great dinner. Love coming here. Anna and Ben are terrific waiters staff. 12/25 - Delightful to go on Christmas Day. Anna and Matt were terrific hosts. 2/10 - A terrific dinner. Ben was, as always, very friendly at the checkout! 3/12 - A great meal with very large proportions. Enough for two more meals at home. Anna and Ben were terrific. 4/3 - Ben and Julie were very friendly. Love this restaurant.

“This is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chicago.”
This is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chicago. Their food is phenomenal. (Their egg rolls are delicious and DOUBLE the size of those anywhere else.) People from all across the country keep coming back. Thebes even hosted after wedding parties.

“My family has been coming here for over 30 years.”
My family has been coming here for over 30 years. It had been awhile since I was there. I was so happy everything was still delicious!! Portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. I need to make sure to get back to the old neighborhood more often for this tasty treat!

Oh man. First time coming to this place, but I've past it a couple thousand times. It was great. Hot tea was great, portions were great. Definitely coming back here a lot. One of the better sit down Chinese restaurants I've been to.

“The Orange Garden is a great restaurant.”
The Orange Garden is a great restaurant. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is not only delicious, but also quite inexpensive. A lunch special - tea (if you request it), soup, egg roll, entree, fortune cookie, plus tax runs less than $8 (minus tip). Did I mention the food is delicious? I recommend the Mongolian Beef - Extra Spicy. It's not "burn your lips off" hot, but it packs a lot of flavor. If you're in the neighborhood, and in the mood for Chinese food, I recommend giving this restaurant a try. Do not be deceived if the restaurant appears empty. They do a lot of carry-out business. A lot.

Orange garden has long been one of my most favorite places for their burrito size egg rolls which are very delicious with that vintage Chicago style peanut butter/ five spice flavor that you can only get in here. All the other dishes I've had are slightly above average, not amazing . I honestly could eat two or three orders of egg rolls and call it a night! It's an old school Americanized Cantonese restaurant, with Chinese zodiac paper placemats in that vintage 1970s Chinese red & gold deco. The service is very attentive and friendly.

Its been told that this neighborhood restaurant will close by next year and Pumpkin’s Corgan bought the neon sign, so I had to try it out. Its a Friday in early May 2022 and first thing you notice is that its packed. Every time the door opens theres a buzz announcing your arrival. And it seems that there is 10x take-away for every table occupied. All good signs!!! The portions are huge and the food is very tasty. I personally enjoyed the hot/sour soup. It was hot (temperature) and the sour was a good pucker factor. The string bean combo (chicken/beef/shrimp) was very good. And so was the combo fried rice. The crab rangoons was a bit too soft not quite crunchy like I am used to. The service was a bit slow but i was okay with that cause it seemed they were short staffed. But service was friendly and accurate. Tables were a bit too close to the booths but I will visit again before the retirement of the owner.
