Che Thai Restaurant — neighborhood chinese in Lakeview. No frills and no gimmicks, just a solid honest room. Friendly without hovering, and affordable. John Allie: "The Pad See Ew is hands down the best I’ve had in Chicago — perfectly tender noodles, well-cooked chicken"

“I travel to Thailand frequently and this restaurant reminds of trips to Bangkok for the great street food”
I’m sad to report Che Thai was truly horrific.
I order online here often, so it shows I definitely like their food (mainly their pad thai). This time was different.
I ordered the garlic chicken rice and mandarin chicken and was highly disappointed.

“Che Thai is a fantastic local spot and everything we’ve tried has been delicious.”
Che Thai is a fantastic local spot and everything we’ve tried has been delicious. The Pad See Ew is hands down the best I’ve had in Chicago — perfectly tender noodles, well-cooked chicken, and incredible flavor. Just so good. The garlic noodles are also a standout. The lo mein noodles are thicker than expected, which actually makes the dish even more comforting and satisfying. We’ll definitely be regulars here. Pro tip: order on Toast — they prefer it.

“Great Restaurant.”
Great Restaurant! The food is amazing, very traditional Thai. 🇹🇭 The fried rice is fantastic, and the portion is generous. 🍚 The yellow curry is to die for; I highly recommend adding chicken – it's "bomb"! 🍛🐔💥

“This is a cute little spot.”
This is a cute little spot. I was in the area and hungry so I figured I'll try it out. I'm lactose free so Thai food is usually a safe place for me. Most customers order pick-up and so I was able to get some work done while I waited for my meal. I ordered the Panang Curry and it was delicious! Flavorful and with a hint of spice. The food is served in what I assume are dishes from Thailand. If I'm in the area again, I will stop by again.

“Amazing restaurant, I have been coming for years and they have stayed consistent.”
Amazing restaurant, I have been coming for years and they have stayed consistent. I usually order crab rangoon, Pad See-Ew and their pineapple fried rice. I can be basic with my order but their food is certainly not. It’s flavorful and fresh, it’s a fun vibe with great service.

“I hadn't eaten here since the revamp and rename of the place.”
I hadn't eaten here since the revamp and rename of the place. Not sure if they're owned by new owners, but my friend and I were glad to have eaten here. It's small and could sit a small amount if folks plan to stay and eat, but lots of people order takeout. It seemed popular the night we went because there were many takeout orders. Everything was made to order, so be prepared to wait a little. The wait was well worth it! I had the panang chicken curry with rice, and my friend ordered the basil fried rice. Both were tasty and had the right amounts of flavor and spice. We also order gyoza soup and tom yum soup, which were perfect on a cold day. For drinks, I had the lemonade while my friend had the Thai iced tea. We ended dinner with mango sticky rice with a side drizzle of condense milk, and it was amazing! I highly recommend this place!

“This is a little place with a great atmosphere, not a whole lot of tables but it's very classic in appearance.”
This is a little place with a great atmosphere, not a whole lot of tables but it's very classic in appearance. The person taking orders was very jovial and served with a smile. The food was fantastic and the music wasn't very loud. The decoration isn't over the top which I absolutely loved. They even agreed to exclude eggs from a fried rice item that we wanted but without eggs. I couldn't get over this place and highly recommend people to try it out.

“Che Thai recently took over the space of Asian Mix and Che Thai is a solid replacement.”
Che Thai recently took over the space of Asian Mix and Che Thai is a solid replacement! The space has been freshened up with new decor and a new menu and it feels much more modern and updated. On my recent visit I ordered Che Noodle with Chicken and the Crying Tiger salad for takeout. The new owners and staff are super friendly and the food was delicious and freshly made. I can't wait to try more of the new menu and their boba smoothies!

“Che Thai (the new name) Now under new ownership.”
Che Thai (the new name) Now under new ownership. The new owner TK has Thai heritage and really knows what she’s doing. I travel to Thailand frequently and this restaurant reminds of trips to Bangkok for the great street food. I had Pad Thai with extra spice, my bride got the vegetarian and gluten-free option of the same. We both really liked the food. They even gave us a small free spring roll appetizer. Again very good food. But it was the happy helpful workers that really made our day. Both were native to Thailand and had the famous ever pleasant attitude and smiles. Since they have lived in. Chicago for years, no language barriers exist. But it was fun using my limited Thai to speak with them both. We plan to go back often, for the great food, great prices, and great service/smiles.
