Hunan Cuisine 湘乡香 — neighborhood chinese in Chinatown. Modern space that photographs well but eats even better. Flavors stay true to the source.

“Very tasty and authentic Chinese food”
There were three of us. Only one of us enjoyed the meal. My garlic chicken was more salty and sugary than garlicky.
One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had dining in.
The stir fry cauliflower is $19?. Are you kidding. Other then that everything is good.

“Tasted like authentic hunan food.”
Tasted like authentic hunan food. All the dishes we ordered were rich in flavor and the waiters were kind. I especially loved the eggplant and green beans.

“Came here craving spicy food and this place delivered.”
Came here craving spicy food and this place delivered. The Xiang special fried rice had a nice kick and great wok aroma, and the house special chicken thigh in pot (boneless) was super flavorful with lots of peppers and garlic. Portion sizes were generous and perfect for sharing. If you like Hunan-style spice, this spot is worth a visit.

2022: Came here with my sister and her SO and we got chicken, bean sprout greens, lotus root, and sizzling tofu. I’m generally not a big fan of Chinese food, but I did very much enjoy this style of food. Service was good but there would have been no way for us to communicate if my sisters SO wasn’t there. They also give you tea in the beginning of the meal. The bean sprout greens are not pictured since my photography skills suck and I blurred the thing. Edit: 5/2025 updating to 5 star because I still think about this food sometimes. I’ve been in SF Bay Area for a bit but I haven’t seen the sizzling tofu there and it’s still delicious. We had take out, so dine in if you can!

“I organized a reunion dinner for a large group (~20 ppl).”
I organized a reunion dinner for a large group (~20 ppl). We taught English in Hunan so I picked Hunan Cuisine, and I'm very glad I did. Owen the manager was very responsive and accommodating with our reservation. The food is very good and very authentic--the spicy fish head, braised pork, the cumin beef were all very good, as were the vegetable dishes. Extra points for the sauteed lotus root, which is hard to find! The service and atmosphere were great as well. I hope I get a chance to eat here again!

“Very tasty and authentic Chinese food.”
Very tasty and authentic Chinese food. They can go very spicy so be careful when asking for extra spicy (stay mild or no spicy if you can't handle Szhechuan food at other restaurants). Service is not very attentive and servers barely interact with customers. I highly recommend their dry pot dishes (beef, boneless chicken); Braised pork in pot; Pork belly with preserved veggies; Smoked pork with dry bamboo. I also recommend ordering deliveries instead of dining there.

“A real hidden gem in Chinatown.”
A real hidden gem in Chinatown! Got the steamed fish head, intestines, chicken in a claypot and cabbage stir fry. Everything was delicious, especially the fish head and chicken. My boyfriend is from Changsha, Hunan and he said it's very authentic! All the chefs are from Hunan. Definitely coming back here and recommended to anyone who wants to try authentic Hunan food!

“Very satisfying dining experience with surprising good value.”
Very satisfying dining experience with surprising good value. Every dish is good and authentic. Ordered duck, fried rice noodle with pickled beans, sour soup beef, fired vege with meat, dry pot cauliflower. Each dish has flavor of it own. Only spent $23 per person tip included. Highly recommended.
