“The hot chocolate was honestly perfect”
I do not recommend Umbría Café.

“Caffe Umbria was exactly what I needed that morning.”
Caffe Umbria was exactly what I needed that morning. It was cold, wet and I wanted something hot, simple as that. Small and cozy spot. The kind of place where you slow down without trying. The staff was genuinely nice too. Asked how my day was and even recommended couple of pastries. I ordered a hot chocolate with an almond blueberry financier. The hot chocolate was honestly perfect. Rich but not heavy. You get that dark chocolate hit first, then it smooths out. Creamy. Warm in the right way. The financier was great. Nutty from the almonds, little bursts of blueberry, soft but not mushy. I dipped it into the hot chocolate (had to), and yeah… even better. No regrets there. It’s a small place, but if you get there early, you might grab a seat with a really nice city view. Worth it. I’ll definitely be back. Especially now that I know there’s a solid hot chocolate spot right nearby.

We got the brown sugar cinnamon latte and a matcha with honey syrup instead of their regular syrup. Highly recommend! We saw that their regular matcha can be too sweet, so this honey syrup was perfect for me! The matcha and coffee both have great depth

“I’ve been coming here whenever I’m in town.”
I’ve been coming here whenever I’m in town! Really nice coffee with good seasonal flavors and speciality drinks. I have tried Mayan inspired latte and Patonette latte. Great service too! They gave me a free drink coupon because I waited for 15 minutes. Definitely will be back next time soon!

“Pretty small cafe right next to the river.”
Pretty small cafe right next to the river. They have some high chairs inside and two or three more tables outside, but overall, this is a grab and go kind of cafe because they are very limited seats. Got the ice vanilla latte, and it was really good. I could tell that the coffee was really high-quality. They also have a lot of coffee on display that you can buy. Overall, a great spot to grab a quick coffee imo.

“Hard to believe but just may very well be the best coffee in my life.....”
Hard to believe but just may very well be the best coffee in my life...... First introduction was in Seattle Washington now second round here in Chicago. The espresso is made out of the Gusto Crema blend. Velvety rich chocolatey caramel flavoring with smooth body tenacious aroma. Full-flavored and full tongue taste. Had to go back for a second round it was so good Cafe staff was excellent very insightful an inspirational they gave color to the city..... From one coffee drinking MF to another this a must. Eben

“If you’re in downtown Chicago and craving a cozy spot for exceptional coffee and pastries, look no...”
If you’re in downtown Chicago and craving a cozy spot for exceptional coffee and pastries, look no further than Cafe Umbria. This charming cafe offers a warm, inviting atmosphere, perfect for relaxing or catching up with friends. One of my absolute favorites is their Spinach and Mushroom Croissant—it’s the perfect balance of flaky, buttery goodness with a savory, perfectly seasoned filling. It’s a must-try for anyone who loves a delicious and satisfying breakfast or snack. The Cafe Mocha is another standout. It’s rich, smooth, and has just the right balance of coffee and chocolate, making it a perfect pick-me-up. If you’re in the mood for something a bit lighter, their Cappuccino is equally top-notch—frothy, velvety, and full of deep coffee flavor that’s never too bitter. The staff is always friendly, and the vibe at Cafe Umbria is cozy yet stylish, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to linger. Whether you’re looking for a great spot to grab a coffee to go or to sit and enjoy a leisurely break, Cafe Umbria delivers every time. Highly recommend!

“Great place to grab a coffee and a pastry.”
Great place to grab a coffee and a pastry! The espresso was very rich, very good for the price. Definitely recommend the croissants, they are as wonderful as they look! I also got the Honey Oatmilk Latte, it was delicious! We enjoyed it so much our first day, that we came back our second morning we were there!

“I walked here from our hotel on a Saturday morning to grab a mocha.”
I walked here from our hotel on a Saturday morning to grab a mocha. It was delicious, and very well made. You know it's good when the baristas chit chat while making your perfect drink from muscle memory. If I ever come back to Chicago, I would stop by here again, and maybe even get a bag of beans this time.
