Axum Ethiopian Restaurant — high-caliber ethiopian in Edgewater. The cooking is rooted in real tradition. Friendly without hovering, and owner on site. Sharon Zhou: "The portion size is huge (among the most generous I’ve ever seen compared to dine in experiences)" [$$, patio]

🌱Vegan & vegetarian friendly — real options, not one sad pasta.
☀️Patio — a Edgewater classic in summer.

Axum is a hidden gem! The food is packed with traditional flavors that reminded me of my time in Addis Ababa. We left completely stuffed because the portions are so generous. Beyond the food, the owner is an amazing person who clearly pours his heart into the restaurant. 10/10 experience.

We ordered 3 different dishes and had 2 days of extra, the amounts were so generous. The Ethiopian beer was delicious, prices reasonable, cleanliness perfect, and Chef came over to chat. Really great lentil and beef dishes with spongey Injera bread. We didn’t leave feeling overfull and sleepy like with Italian or Chinese cuisine. Loved not using utensils and dipping and scoping with the perfect fluffy bread to savor every bite.

Freakin’ delicious flavor bomb. We got the meat & veggie combo for 3 ppl. Service was great. We left so stuffed, and with leftovers. Plenty of street parking- paid on main road or free on side streets.

Adding this comment literally right after finishing my dinner because this place is such a gem! I’ve always loved Ethiopian food and have been to quite a few restaurants in different cities but haven’t tried ordering online. Saw that the restaurant does ubereats and decided to give it a try. I was a little concerned about ordering kitfo (raw beef) via delivery in this hot summer weather but it did not disappoint at all! The portion size is huge (among the most generous I’ve ever seen compared to dine in experiences), very fresh and beautifully seasoned. And, as an absolute meat lover, I must say that there was so much beef (in the best way)! In terms of the sides, they don’t skimp on the injera either (4 big pieces just for the regular size, no “extra”). Was very glad to see that they use the real injera made from teff, which gives it the characteristic fermented sourness and the chewy texture. (I felt that this is worth commenting on since I was served whiteish “injera” last year at another Ethiopian restaurant and was very disappointed.) The collard greens and misir wot (lentils) as sides were very flavorful too, the spices were bright and balanced. Overall this was a beyond expectation ordering experience and now I feel compelled to pay them a visit in the near future :) Thanks for the amazing food!

Yo when Ras Dashen closed I thought I would never love again. I had been to a few other Ethiopian restaurants since they closed. Nothing came close to the feelings of joy I got when frequenting RD. But now we have a new wonderful Ethiopian restaurant that specializes in vegetarian dishes. It's so good. I really hope more people realize and keep this place open a long time. Its a labor of love. The owner is very nice and gave my son a free apple juice. Family business, father wife and son I believe. The son was the waiter and very nice and helpful. Hoping they add dupa wat to the menu but everything is wonderful again now that we have another exceptional restaurant in this space.

Went for their Sunday brunch buffet. Had a few options available including beef chicken and two sauces. Wished there were more options. But for the food provided, all were very tasty. Owner is very kind and friendly. Loved the coffee which was the highlight of the buffet.

Deki adina , Food is delicious but they run out of enjera, and the base injera we got was old it’s has some white on it. We asked for extra enjera multiple times no enjera at all. They should let customers know ahead of time. One was complaining and canceled the food and left. 😑,

Everything is great can't go wrong normally get the sampler (no 30) because we don't go with enough people to order the full dishes.

Fresh, delicious food with generous portion sizes. Our 4-person group got the veggie and meat combo for 3 and had leftovers to enjoy the next day. The chef himself came out to say "hi" and explain the menu, which was a lovely surprise! I thoroughly enjoyed the injera, which was soft and pleasantly sour. Not difficult at all to get to the restaurant if you take public transit or drive.
