Smyth — high-caliber american in Near West Side. Warm lighting and a soft pace throughout. The cocktail program is serious. Mariya Suprun: "Had an incredible dinner here — every dish felt like a work of art, and the flavors were just spot on"

“The most impressive dish was caviar in walnut oil, the sweetness perfectly compliments the savory taste of caviar and I see that as a quite successful invention”
Smyth’s offers excellent service and ambiance, but the creativity in the menu largely missed the mark.

If you are looking for a place RICH in flavors, with top notch service, exquisite wines with quality, “over the top presentation”…dine at this restaurant. 3 Michelin stars and deserves every one of them. I was asked to compare it to the others I have been to in the city of Chicago, and I most certainly will not do that because this restaurant does not compare to anything my tastebuds have ever experienced. Its a must try, and don’t ask me how much we spent. When you are going to a restaurant like this, you don’t look at the bill. You just sign it.

“Absolutely incredible.”
Absolutely incredible. Not only was the food delicious, unique, beautiful, and steeped in story, but every single person on the team was wonderful. The staff were passionate, professional, and genuinely kind. We’ve made it our goal to visit Michelin-starred restaurants around the world especially the three-star ones and this one stands out above them all. There was a very real, positive energy in the room. The chefs, servers, and sommeliers felt completely in sync, yet still so humble and unpretentious...hard to pinpoint but it just felt magical -- truly good vibes. You could tell they truly love what they do, which is so rare these days. It ended up being one of the best fine-dining experiences we’ve ever had. The wine pairing was also phenomenal!!

“This was an outstanding experience.”
This was an outstanding experience. The service was especially friendly, attentive, and personal. Every member of the staff made this as memorable as possible in their own way. The food brought countless sensory elements, textures, and truly unique flavors. Hope to dine here again as soon as possible.

The visit to Smyth marked the completion of my goal to visit all 3 stars restaurants in US, and that was a beautiful ending. In general, it is hard to define what type of cuisine Smyth is serving, because in every dish you can experience influence from different discipline. The most impressive dish was caviar in walnut oil, the sweetness perfectly compliments the savory taste of caviar and I see that as a quite successful invention. I look forward to more ground breaking restaurants like Smyth in the US.

We're in Chicago for a lovely getaway for the next few days and I was surprised with a reservation to try the 3 Michelin Starred restaurant, Smyth. There's only 13 restaurants in America who have earned 3 Michelin stars -- the highest a restaurant can earn🔥 One of the best meals I've ever had in my life -- it was beyond incredible. 14 courses of the most experimental delicious cuisine that tells a story that only the phenomenal Chef John Shields can tell. I'm beyond amazed and will be thinking about this dinner for many years to come.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Excellent atmosphere and service.”
Excellent atmosphere and service. We had 12 of the most delicious and artistic courses with lovely wine pairings that we have ever had anywhere. Definitely not everyday dining, but absolutely perfect for my hubby's bday and a celebration of Chicago fine dining.

“Great atmosphere.”
Great atmosphere. It's really cool to be able to see the open kitchen. I was impressed that it wasn't loud and that you could dine and talk normally. The food was very good. Moreover, though, I thought the Super Mega wine pairing was well worth the money. We had 9 different wines across 13 courses. Each wine was excellently paired with the food and were very unique wines. The meal was well paced, the food contemporary, and the staff excellent!

“Dining at Smyth is an unparalleled experience.”
Dining at Smyth is an unparalleled experience. Each dish is a work of art, meticulously crafted to delight every sense. The multiple small plates, beautifully prepared, offer a culinary journey that words can’t fully capture. This triple Michelin star restaurant provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience. By the end of the two-hour meal, our imaginations were expanded and our satisfaction immense. An absolute must-visit!

“This was the first true tasting restaurant experience and Smyth did not disappoint.”
This was the first true tasting restaurant experience and Smyth did not disappoint. Everything was top notch, especially our lovely servers. My only notes are that I would have preferred the sorbet course earlier in the lineup as my Midwestern palette got fatigued after the caviar course (so many bold, rich flavors were overwhelming my autistic tongue) and I was secretly hoping for a cheese course because, well, cheese is delicious and I bet they'd have some crazy pairings. I do wish I'd been more upfront about my food aversions (cilantro, etc) but I was able to eat mango and raw tomatoes and actually enjoy them. I appreciate Smyth's preference to be "unexpected" in their menu and I appreciate a good surprise, but as an autistic diner I believe I would have had a better time if the dishes were explained as they were introduced. There were an abundance of unexpected flavors and textures that I feel for me would have been fine if I was anticipating them but as a neurodivergent person were a bit exhausting. This is not a knock on Smyth, just a soft suggestion for other neurospicy individuals looking at their first tasting experience. Overall an excellent experience and we're looking forward to coming back next time we're in town.

“Very unique flavors, ingredients and techniques with an emphasis on kelp extracts and seafood.”
Very unique flavors, ingredients and techniques with an emphasis on kelp extracts and seafood. My favorite dishes were Caviar & Almond, Avocado & Pistachio, Lamb & Milk Bread, and Aged Banana. In my opinion, the Steamed Brook Trout could have been better served chilled rather than warm. The team was extremely professional throughout, worthy of 3 Michelin stars. Overall, an experience worth trying at least once.

“Single handedly the most unique and wonderful culinary experience of my life.”
Single handedly the most unique and wonderful culinary experience of my life. The ambiance, seeing the kitchen, the staff, the INCREDIBLE food - it was unparalleled. If you have the opportunity to experience this, I highly recommend! There was a point during the meal that it felt like my senses were short-circuiting because of flavor fireworks. I've never experienced the layers of flavor, textures, and presentation. I also loved the little touch of giving us the menu at the end. I couldn't follow everything because its just a sensory overload (in the best way) and I am glad that i have that to remember it. THE BEST RESTAURANT I'VE BEEN TO IN CHICAGO

“What an amazing dining experience.”
What an amazing dining experience. My first three star Michelin restaurant. I don’t want to give away much, as that’s part of the experience. The unknown! We had the wine pairing with our booking and it was a perfect match with each dish. The only thing I didn’t like was the seaweed dish, but that’s just more of a personal taste. Would definitely recommend.
