A Taste of the Philippines — a Portage Park filipino mainstay. The design gives it a sharp first impression. The recipes feel handed down, not invented. Owner on site. "She made sure the food was fresh and hot when me and my guests arrived (even though we were a little late" — Mica Alcantara [$$]

I’ve been a fan of Chef Kathy since her pop-ups here in Chicago. That alone I know her food is wonderful. Having a brick and mortar is different than pop-ups. People are the ones coming to you, so impressions and customer experience are vital to what will make a customer return. With the evolving service standards and hospitality gap - customers often wonder “why should I inconvenient myself and not utilize Uber eats or DoorDash to eat?” The Taste of Philippines answers that well! Dining in was a delight. I dined by myself and it was a warm atmosphere to feel the consistency of smiling customers, returning or new / dining in or take out. The staff checks in on you enough times and the portion of foods generous. I love Filipino breakfast and I’m not ordering that elsewhere unless they made it themselves. It shouldn’t taste like It was bought & defrosted from Seafood City. Her chicken tocino and skinless longanisa were clearly home made and I can wait to try her other entrees on the menu! They even offered a side of vinegar in true Filipino nature. Needless to say, I do plan to come back. For their delicious food and friendly atmosphere. I hope you give this place a try!

The BEST Filipino food- and run by Kathy who cares so deeply about the authenticity and experience of her customers. Highlights are: lumpia, longanisa sandwich, chicken adobo, pancit, and lechon. Need to come back for sinigang sandwich!! Also the ube desserts and iced coffee are a nice touch!

Walked by this as I was done with yoga and didn’t even realize it was here. I’m glad I walked in to order some breakfast to go. Everything was delicious. Will definitely go back for an Ube doughnut!

We're visiting from out of state and came across this place. The food is amazing and the owner is super friendly. The coconut chicken is the best.

Love the food…love the experience. The owner Kathy, and employee Ash were there when I wondered by and what amazing people. The food and service was simply out of this world. The lumpias are soooooo good, I’m craving one now that I’m typing this. I even ended up leaving with a t-shirt. I loved this place that much. You will not be disappointed here!

This was our first time visiting and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the longaniza breakfast sandwiches, pork lumpia, ube cookies and donuts! The breakfast sandwich is a must if you visit. The ube pandesal complimented the sandwich perfectly! Definitely visiting again!

I wish I could rate this place higher than 5 stars! The owner Kathy is so welcoming and kind and the food is incredible. The ube and pandan cold brews were great and not too sweet. Everything we ate was delicious and I could not rave about it more! You have to try their desserts too.

Had breakfast here and it was delicious:) I had the breakfast combo with the garlic fried rice, longaniza, and chicken. Don’t forget the ube cookies! I took them to go since I was so full!

Great place, small with a friendly staff. Closes early but the food is very good. Worth it for brunch.

The food here is genuinely so good! Every dish tastes like it was made with love. You can really tell how much care goes into the cooking. The owner and chef is one of the kindest, friendliest ladies you’ll ever meet, and her warmth makes the whole experience even better. The service is always great, and every meal feels like coming home. If you’re craving authentic Filipino food that’s comforting, flavorful, and served with heart, this is the spot. Everything on the menu is delicious, and I can’t recommend it enough!
