The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant — established american in South Loop with a loyal following. Cocktail menu runs deeper than expected. Service that's warm without being over the top, and handles groups well. Lukas Voss: "The calamari were juicy and tender and the sauces succulent" [$$$, patio]

☀️Patio — a South Loop classic in summer.

Wow! All I can say is wow. Fabulous, Oysters, Ribeyes, fish, the tart cherries pie & the Vanilla/Brownbutter ice cream are also spectacular. Then there’s a 20-year tawny port to end the evening. Plus a nice pianist for your dining enjoyment.

On vacation for New Years and went to AmEx/Resy for a suggestion. Easy to schedule a reservation for 5, and very flexible when we had to change the reservation due to late flights and delays. Ambiance is immediate. This place is lovely. Really a historic gem that is serene, quiet and classy. The service was exceptional. Carlos was a consummate professional who demonstrated care and candor with us. We even got the requisite selfie with Carlos at the end- thanks Carlos! The food was amazing. Braised beef that melts in your mouth. French onion soup that is a meal in itself. Filet cooked perfectly. Even the “sleeper” on the menu- meatloaf- was exceptional in a flavorful, dark mushroom sauce. Chocolate cake for dessert and we almost needed help getting out to the uber. So full, so satisfied. Prices are more than fair. Thank you Carlos and Chicago Firehouse Restaurant! We will be back!

My husband and I went here on the recommendation form the concierge at our hotel and it did not disappoint! The restaurant itself is beautiful and exactly what we were looking for in a Chicago steak house. It was also beautifully decorated for the holidays. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But the star of the show was to food. My husband had the dry aged steak and he said it was perfectly cooked and delicious. I had their 25th anniversary special which was the braised beef and it was the best meal I have had all year, and we live in San Diego and eat out at least 5 days a week. It was tender and full of flavor served with mashed potatoes, carrots and a delicious sauce. I don’t know if they will always have it since it was a special but if it’s on the menu I highly recommend ordering it. We also had the baby wedge salad, one of the best wedge salads I’ve ever had and the creamed spinach which was very good as well. The last thing to mention was the manhattan that my husband had, he said it was the best manhattan he has ever had. So if you are ever in the area definitely check it out. I will say it is $50-$100 per person depending on what you order but it was definitely worth it! We did not have time, or room in our stomachs for dessert, but I did see the dessert tray and everything looked amazing.

Great service and a beautiful space. The brussel sprouts and oysters Rockefeller were fabulous. I was not pleased with my steak though. I ordered the Delmonico Ribeye and, while good, I did expect it to be better. It was a tad overcooked from the medium I ordered and was lacking flavor. It could've been a one off, so I'm not ruling it out for the future but in this instance, I was not impressed by it.

This was a Thanksgiving day meal. I gave it 4 stars because of the interaction with the staff. The customer service was exceptional even though not completely sincere. They all said nice to see you again even though it was my first time there. I found it funny. I would have given it 3 stars if it wasn't for the staff, due to the price of the meal compared to the quality. The turkey was like it was boiled, then seasoned a tiny bit. It kinda looked like those Tyson chicken breast thin cuts. I put my serving of cranberry on it as well as someone else's to give it some life, also some gravy. The stuffing and potatoes were ok. The pecan pie was interesting but not what I expected. They were small personal pies that had very crunchy and flaky crusts. I prefer a regular old slice of pie. I won't go again, but mostly because I'll try to spend the rest of my Thanksgiving meals with my family.

I tend to be more critical of restaurants that position themselves among the best, because naturally I expect an exceptional experience. We had wanted to visit for a long time, and when we saw it featured on the Restaurant Week menu, we finally decided to try it. Overall, the experience was somewhat underwhelming, despite excellent service. We started with the lobster bisque, which absolutely lived up to its reputation. The puff pastry baked on top was delicious, and the bisque itself was fresh, rich, and full of flavor — easily the highlight of the meal. However, the experience declined with the main course. I ordered the fillet mignon, which was served without any sides. For a $60 Restaurant Week dinner menu, this felt disappointing, as you must order sides separately. We added fries and Brussels sprouts, both of which were very good, but the steak itself lacked flavor and was simply average rather than memorable. For dessert, we tried both the butter cake and the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was particularly disappointing — it tasted almost sugar-free and lacked depth and richness. The butter cake was better, but overwhelmingly sweet to the point of being unbalanced. While the service was truly top-notch and the atmosphere was pleasant, the food did not consistently match the restaurant’s reputation or my expectations. A few standout elements, but overall not the exceptional dining experience I had hoped for.

Anyone that recalls the scene in Ratatouille where the stodgy, old food critic is immediately taken back to his childhood by the first bite of a meal - that was legit me taking my first bite of the seasonal peach, tomato, and cucumber salad over a bed of whipped cheese, topped with the most mouth-watering croutons. What followed was a melt in your mouth bread basket and outstanding fish and chips - this place was hands down one of the top three restaurants of my life.
