Too expensive for what you get. 6 course meal was delicious, but not worth $75. Service was okay but far from great.
I am not sure about all stellar reviews. Our experience took 2.5 hrs.

This was one of those meals that changes your brain chemistry and opens your mind to just how good food can be. Easily my new favorite restaurant in Chicago. We chose the 5-course tasting + wine pairing. I don’t know much about wine but each was lovely. Course 1 - betal leaves/prawns/chive dumplings. No words. Set the tone for the entire meal. The assault of textures and flavors and the burst of the lime… wow. Like eating pure vitamins and nutrients. Delicious. That prawn was beautiful. I did not even want to eat it. It tasted so fresh and the crisp of the batter.. indescribable. The dumplings were perfectly soft and perfectly crispy. 10/10. Course 2 - mushroom soup. I knew Herb was known for its soup. This soup was the best course of the entire evening, maybe even my favorite dish in the city/world. I have never eaten something so deep and rich in flavor. Powerful. 10000000/10. I’d go back just for 3 bowls of the soup. Course 3 - an assortment of pork and tofu that I cannot remember fully. Both were phenomenal. The ground pork was perfect. PERFECT. Course 4 - duck. Yall…….. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 if you’ve been to Sun Wah, turn the dial up a few notches. Insane flavor. Easily the best duck I’ve ever eaten in any setting. Course 5 - mango sticky rice. No words. Luxurious. Chef Patty came out to check in with us from the second we walked in the door to the end of the meal. Our waiter Chris was extremely friendly and made us feel like we were eating in someone’s house. I cannot wait to come back. I agree with other reviewers— not that it matters, but I have eaten at several fine dining restaurants and Herb easily competes, blowing many of them right out of the water. More people need to be talking about this restaurant. I cannot wait for the privilege to return.

This is absolutely one of the most hidden gems in Chicago. The food and service is world class with one of the most hospitable team of any restaurant I have visited. I was astounded by the array of fresh herbs, produce and other ingredients they use and the food is so fresh and clean. Herb is an asset to the community I hope everyone will treat themselves to this amazing experience.

Beautiful! Tasty! Herb was an amazing time, with the friendliest staff who would joke with our table and give us a play by play of the dinner. We chose the 5-course menu to try more items and we did not regret it: 2 apps, 1 soup, 1 main, and 1 dessert. While everything was amazing both taste-wise and presentation wise. I will say that my favorite dishes were the prawn and the mushroom soup (I was almost going to lick the plate!). While the portions are on the smaller end, I felt satisfied and the mango sticky rice definitely was a great way to close the night! Thanks Patty!

Wow. Herb is a true gem in Chicago's restaurant scene. I've been in the city for ten years and love exploring its many amazing culinary offerings. But there are a few really special experiences that stay with me-our dinner at Herb is now one of them. Chef Patty is doing magical things with simple, fresh ingredients. She personally greeted us at our table and guided us through our entire dinner. We went with the full seven course option and it was an incredible journey. Rooted in the delicious flavors of Thai cuisine that make it so popular, every course did something to elevate the experience and add a surprising twist. The plates were visually stunning with balanced flavors. The service was warm and attentive, but never overbearing. It is clear that Chef Patty is passionate about this restaurant, and that comes through in the dishes and the attention to every detail. My favorite dish was the Betal Leaves starter. It was so fresh and unique with a blend of subtle flavors that made us both grin as soon as we put the first one in our mouth. We knew from that first bite we were in for a fun evening. l've been to Oriole, Alinea, El Ideas, and many other Chicago culinary heavyweights. Our dinner at Herb was on that level. This place is a must-visit.

Chef Patty and the Herb restaurant creates an experience that is one of a kind. One that is hand curated to give you not only traditional Thai food, but farm-to-table fresh ingredients and microgreens that makes you not only feel full, but feels extra special AND healthy. Chef Patty has a curated menu that is truly so special, and she came by our table to share her insights on each of the items in the menu. The tumeric trio mushroom soup was something I’m going to dream about, and come back just to have more and more of. It was truly something, and it makes sense why this is in the Michelin Guide. Would 100% be coming back again.

My friend and I went here to celebrate my upcoming wedding. She found Herb which has an affordable tasting menu that has 3 menu tiers. We went with the middle option, which was 5 courses and dessert. Each dish was expertly crafted and really let the main ingredients shine. Chef Patty also checked in on us frequently to ensure that we were satisfied with our meal. Our favorite dish was the chicken coconut curry; we could have eaten the curry sauce with just rice because it was that good. Will definitely be back in the future!

Amazing experience at Herb! Chef Patty was friendly and talked to us about each dish. We got the plant-based tasting menu and everything was fresh and unique. Real stand outs were the mushroom turmeric soup and betel leaves, as well as the mango sticky rice dessert. Classy atmosphere and delicious food with attentive service. Definitely recommend !

We're visiting from out of town and some friends who are locals booked this dining experience. It was the first time for us all. Chef Patty greeted us, took our order, explained the menu and goal of the atmosphere and experience she is looking to recreate. She absolutely delivered on her vision. All of the wait staff were incredibly friendly. There were four of us all doing the 5 course experience. I ordered primarily from the plant based menu which was so thoughtfully prepared. The plating and presentation was phenomenal. Each dish built on the previous and was a gradual introduction of heat (spiciness) in a very methodical way. All four of us left no morsel of food on our dishes and we left feeling satiated. This is the best Thai dining experience I've ever had. Even the music was soothing. We were not rushed - the dishes came out with a cadence that allowed for us to enjoy each other's company and comment on the dishes, fresh ingredients and really elevate the evening. Chef Patty has done something very special here and this is a hidden gem I highly encourage you to experience.
