Taqueria Tejupilco
Taqueria Tejupilco — one of Lakeview's strongest mexican spots. Old-school in the best sense, with zero pretense. You can taste the generations behind this. Priced right. "The inside is small—only three tables—so it’s more ideal for takeout, but WOW, the food is phenomenal" — Gabrielle Trent [$]

“so so good! my friend and I stopped by just half an hour before they closed, but everything was still so good and delicious: not even a single trace of "last batch/bottom of barrel scraps" in our amazing amazing food. fresh fries, crispy loaded nachos, and succulent chorizo. I would suggest getting take-out, as the space is pretty small, and also bring cash if you can to avoid the 3% card fee. highly highly recommend!!”

“Well priced and sizable tacos that are delicious, don’t forget to get sauce also.”

“Wow fantastic taqueria in lakeview had lunch here then later came back for a late bite! lol twice in one day! That speaks volumes. The Food here is Fresh Fast and Fantastic with a lot of options I will be back to try some more delicious food. 👍🏼😆”

“By far the most authentic Mexican tacos I’ve ever had.. 💯 hands down the best in Chicago!”

“Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in Chicago!! Loooove the tortas and their gorditas are also great. Good service and pretty fast”

“Omg~ the food is delish! We definitely will be back. The beans reminded me of my Grandma’s. Even my husband was happy with the results.”

“I live in Texas so I know my way around a taco and these are top notch. No frills affordable spot to eat with great food.”

“The perfect place to fill your stomach. Me and my man got a burrito and tostadas. SOOOO good. I love the vibe and it’s a small business you MUST support. im never going to another Mexican restaurant again. Take all my money! Also the cashier lady was disgustingly beautiful and sweet😍”

“2nd time here. The food is pretty good can’t lie, however, as a LA native, this is pretty pricey. Still good though. I added an updated menu picture since the website has old prices”

“Taqueria Tejupilco is a small spot offering authentic Mexican food at very reasonable prices. The value matches what you pay—flavors are solid, though quality can vary depending on what you order. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, and the vegetarian taco was a pleasant surprise with good balance. The burrito was savory, but unfortunately the meat was low-quality and slightly burnt, which took away from the overall experience. While this isn’t the place for premium cuts or upscale dining, it’s a reliable choice if you’re looking for a quick, affordable meal with authentic touches. Given the fair pricing and consistency in some dishes, it earns 4 stars.”
