Shula's Steak House
Shula’s Steak House stands out for its beautifully moody, 1930s-inspired setting, wood-paneled dining room, and new speakeasy with old-school mafia vibes. Regulars praise the 22-ounce bone-in ribeye, buttery mashed potatoes, shrimp cocktail, charcuterie board, and indulgent chocolate cake, making it a memorable date-night or special-occasion choice. Service can be exceptional, though some reviews note slow or inconsistent attention, high prices, and the need for reservations.

“Shula's Steak House was a surprisingly delightful experience! I hadn't heard much about Shula's prior to my experience but it was highly recommended by locals, and now I fully see why! The quality of the food was as top tier as the service, and the cocktails were a perfect pairing to the upscale atmosphere as well! From dinner to dessert, I found myself satisfied on all fronts! Shula's Steak House is now an absolute must for me every time I find myself in town!”

“My family and I had An amazing experience with Mose and His team! The chef came out to greet us , and Angel the bartender was super nice and informative! They took care of us like no other place. The charcuterie board was 🔥🔥🔥! And I HIGHLY recommend their new speak easy room ! It has old school mafia vibes and they did a GREAT job setting it up! Every little detail really felt like if we were in a different era . Great job for the whole team! Thank you Juan Carlos for recommending me this place !”

“We had a wonderful time in a beautiful restaurant! The food was delicious, and we enjoyed great service, as well. The staff was very accommodating with a guest who was in a wheelchair. The overall experience was great, and I would highly recommend. We had a reservation, but it was not busy when we went in. The entrance to the restaurant is inside the lobby of the Sheraton. We were early for our reservation so we stopped and had a drink at the hotel lounge, overlooking the river walk. Very nice evening!”

“Shula’s was a great Chicago experience. My husband and I enjoyed our drinks; he had a domestic beer and I had the Taittinger. Our salad and steak were outstanding. The wood paneling and the curved barrel ceiling make for a beautiful restaurant, and it was nice to sit in a booth by the window and enjoy the view of the sidewalk. The service could not have been better! A quick tip: make reservations.”

“Absolutely outstanding experience at Shula’s—so good I went two nights in a row. Sat at the bar both times and was lucky enough to have James as my bartender—top-notch service, personable, and knew his stuff. The steak was perfectly cooked, mashed potatoes were buttery and smooth, and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and flavorful. Finished with the chocolate cake, which was rich and indulgent in the best way. Originally planned for just one visit, but after night one, there was no question I was coming back. Shula’s delivered across the board—food, drinks, service. A+ all around.”

“Reservations, the place was not extremely busy, but drink service was a bit slow. Appetizers came out just before dinner was served. Food was ok, nothing great. Server was very enthusiastic.”

“Tired steakhouse. Nothing special in a city full of special places. The bartender was meh at best not engaging and he had nothing else to do because the place was empty. And when I asked a simple question about one of the desserts, he had no clue.”

“Evelyn the hostess was extremely rude & unprofessional we were running late & called for notice. We arrived at the front desk Evelyn told us that we didn’t leave a voicemail so she canceled us, told us she reserved it for a later time we can sit at the bar & wait just for it to be no reservation and no more seats at the bar. Very unapologetic & snappy big inconvenience”
“We had our first experience at Shula's and it was amazing! Great food and service! Next time I'm in Chicago, I'll will visit Shula's again!”
“I had an amazing experience at Shula’s Steakhouse! Their speakeasy bourbon style restaurant is beautiful, classic 1930s vibe, very vintage, with dim lights and candles making it feel very moody, warm and intimate. The staff was the best part of all. Moe was very attentive, always made sure to check in with us. Angel the server/bartender was super easy to talk to, very pleasant and informative. Excellent service, amazing food and drinks in a beautiful space, highly recommend to stop by for an 1 on 1 date, double dates, or business meetings!”
“When visiting Shula’s, you have to check out their speakeasy! It truly feels like stepping back in time, with incredible attention to detail throughout the space. The food and drinks were fantastic, but what made the experience special was the staff. Angel did an amazing job explaining the drinks and keeping us entertained, while Moe was a wonderful host who took the time to answer all our questions about the theme. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, it honestly felt like visiting family. Highly recommend for a fun night out in Chicago!”
