Lima Restaurant — straightforward peruvian in Portage Park. Walk in and you know immediately: this place is real. The cooking is rooted in real tradition. Michael Rivera: "The chicken was juicy with a nice smoky flavor"

“I loved my experience here”
No really Peruvian taste bad experience ceviche need juicy fresh lemon soup nothing like peru.
The food at Lima was okay, but I was surprised to find a $14.55 service fee added to my bill that was never mentioned beforehand.
Previously known as Avenida Peru, which was operated way better, Lima Restaurant is unfortunately not one I recommend.

“Ceviche mixto was my favorite.”
Ceviche mixto was my favorite! The lomo (beef) is super tender and well cooked. I didn’t realize the service fee was automatically included but given the times we’re living in I still left an extra tip! I do agree that they should disclose the service fee when checking out or on the menu.

“This is a newer (2025) restaurant opened by the Avenida Peru entrepreneurs.”
This is a newer (2025) restaurant opened by the Avenida Peru entrepreneurs. We attended for the first time for a Father's Day buffet so we have not yet ordered from the menu. I understand they do open for breakfast and Avenida has been repurposed as a street grill food place. Atmosphere is family friendly, clean and new, not fancy, with fairly loud latin music (not as loud as it would be in Peru). BYOB. The buffet had about 20 choices, mostly served on hot plates, cold plates, or slow cookers. Drinks included chicha morada, water, maracuya, orange juice, and coffee and were included in the $50 per person buffet price. Two ceviche choices and causa. The only US item was brownies for dessert (invented in Chicago of course!) but Peruvian options included mazamorra and a flan torte. The entrees ranged from good to fantastic. There were several regional dishes that we tried: some we didn't really care for because they had ingredients we don't like (cow organs for me, certain vegetables for my spouse) but the dish was fresh, well prepared and properly seasoned. A buffet was a perfect way to try these because we would never have ordered them from a menu. The Seca de carne (beef dry soup) is unattractive but absolutely-to-die-for delicious. The fish with macho (spicy) sauce wasn't quite spicy enough for my taste, but still fantastic. We just came back from a month in Peru and this food was very authentic, very well prepared, and very enjoyable to eat.

“Cute restaurant and very authentic Peruvian food.”
Cute restaurant and very authentic Peruvian food. We were happy our nephew who is from Peru introduced us to it while we were in Chicago area. I had the chaufa lomo and my husband had lomo saltado. The beef was delicious and tender. We all enjoyed tasting each others' dishes! It was a wonderful experience to learn more about his culture. The staff is very friendly.
