“neighborhood fixture for over three decades, this unassuming spot on Ashland has earned its reputation the old-fashioned way one handmade tortilla at a time. I've been coming here for 24+ years, and it only gets better. They're open late hours and serve great lunch, but I come here mostly for breakfast and that's where this place truly shines. The machaca with homemade tortillas is outstanding — great textures, deep flavors, as authentic as it gets. The beans are homemade, the tortillas are hot and fluffy, and the salsa is always impeccable — spot-on heat and consistency. The chips are always warm, crunchy, and free — not something you see much anymore. The enchiladas verdes are something else entirely. The salsa is unique — the acidity hits perfectly with the chicken, and those homemade tortillas soak it all up. Topped with plenty of green salsa, tomatillo, and slightly melted chihuahua cheese, with a side of beans and rice. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Tacos de cecina on a hot, fluffy tortilla with a nice grilled piece of cecina, pico de gallo, guacamole, and beans — perfection. The sabana blanca is a showstopper: perfectly cooked skirt steak topped with mole and melted cheese. Cut through that meat, put it on a hot tortilla, take a bite — there's no going back to any other place. The seafood is excellent too — their seasoning has a consistency that makes this restaurant unique. Yes, it's a hole in the wall. Small spot. Service can take a little longer sometimes, but the staff has been there for years, they're phenomenal, they pay attention to you, and the food comes up super quick. They serve beer and a few tequilas — do not order a margarita here, get it right: go straight to a beer. I pair the sabana blanca with a Negra Modelo — perfect combo. Fresh orange juice, all the soft drinks. If you're looking for a phenomenal breakfast experience, this is it. 24 Years, One Table, the Ashland Ave Institution That Doesn't Need a Sign to Be Legendary For a full review visit out Channel La Condesa — 1003 N. “Muy amables y la comida está muy rica tengo más de 25 años visitando este restaurante”

“The food and experience are very authentic Mexican. This is not a taco or Burrito House, this is real authentic Mexican food with a extremely large variety of options to choose from. I recommend the Carne a La Tampiqueña or my favorite, Bistec a la Mexicana. This is one of my favorite places in Chicago for Mexican food and I highly recommend it.”

“Handmade tortillas! Authentic food. The vibes feel like you are in someone's home. The service is attentive. Chips and salsa are served when you sit down. The michelada is amazing. Tortillas echas a mano. El ambiente es como si estuvieras en casa. Los empleados son muy atentos. Te reciben con salsa y totopos. Me encanta la michelada.”

“Delicious! I grabbed the Torta Especiale. So yummy. I will be back to eat more haha”

“Aunque la calidad de la carne no es la mejor esta bien cocinada con excelente servicio y una infinidad de variedades de platillos mexicanos!”

“Such a lovely restaurant. The food tastes like love. The atmosphere feels authentic with the artwork on the walls. Love this place.”

“Excellent huevos rancheros. The corn tortillas are legit. Best huevos rancheros I've had outside of South Texas. I'm very impressed by the quality and authenticity of the Mexican food in Chicago. ¡Muy sabroso! The coffee was excellent. Tastes like they put a little cinnamon in the grounds when brewing.”
