La Cantina Grill — a mexican spot in South Loop. It gets busy, and that's part of the appeal. The cooking is rooted in real tradition. Vegetarian-friendly. Epic Chicago: "The guacamole is made fresh to order, perfectly creamy with just the right amount of lime and spice"

“I’m not sure what defines good service for you, for me it’s when I feel like I’m at the servers house and they are being a great host”
Low quality food and a very unattractive space.
The place was loud and crampt. The waitress was friendly but got my order wrong twice.
We waited over 2 hours for our food and drinks.

This spot is a go-to for tasty Mexican food in a casual setting. The menu has a great variety, from tacos and fajitas to hearty entrees, all full of flavor and served fresh. The margaritas are a nice bonus, and the atmosphere is lively without feeling overwhelming. It’s a solid choice for a relaxed meal with friends or family.

My wife and I ate here before we went to see System of a down and Avenge Sevenfold at soldier field. Cute little place. We ate outside. It was very nice. I ordered the steak tacos. She got a chimmichonga. Very delicious. The waitress was very nice and our food came out quick.

“An excellent establishment near the Mccormick convention center.”
An excellent establishment near the Mccormick convention center. Staff were solid and start you off with chips and salsa. If you love tamales the appetizer version is quite the helping and generous on the filling (pictured is pork and red sauce) Comes unwrapped and sort of like a tamale burrito. Ordered the zamora platter which was a sizable helping. Steak was flavorful and tender. It was nice to have the guac and cactus salad to complement the steak. Rice was kind of plain, but suitable as a nice side if I hadn’t had tamales as well. Hope to return some day.

“If you’re in the South Loop and craving authentic, vibrant Mexican cuisine, La Cantina Grill is an absolute must-visit.”
If you’re in the South Loop and craving authentic, vibrant Mexican cuisine, La Cantina Grill is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a lively, yet cozy atmosphere that sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The menu offers a perfect blend of classic favorites and unique twists that will excite your taste buds. The tacos—particularly the carnitas and al pastor—are bursting with flavor, and the portion sizes are generous. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial, the fajitas are sizzling perfection, with tender cuts of meat, grilled veggies, and the perfect balance of seasoning. What truly sets La Cantina Grill apart, though, is the attention to detail in every dish. The guacamole is made fresh to order, perfectly creamy with just the right amount of lime and spice. The margaritas? Refreshing and strong, with a variety of flavors to suit any preference, whether you like your drinks sweet or on the rocks. The service is also top-notch—friendly, knowledgeable staff who genuinely seem to care about your experience. They’re quick to offer recommendations and make you feel at home from start to finish.

Vegan friendly, so many good vegan options. Get the El Pastor. I haven't have food this good since I was in Santa Fe. Daughter (9) said the portions were too large for her.

WOW…just wow!!! Very impressed with this place. Visiting from Pittsburgh and was trying to find a new place to eat and came across La Cantina Grill. Man am I glad I stumbled across this place! It was pretty busy on a Tuesday and I ended up just ordering at the front desk since I was so hungry. The service was very friendly and helped me get my order perfect. Ended up getting my order in about 15mins and walked back to my hotel. Wasn’t expecting much and figured it was just another Mexican restaurant. Recently I was in Mexico City and I will say this was better than the food I had when I was there! Which is hard to believe but it’s true. Best tamale’s I have ever had and were very authentic. Nothing but great things to say. Hopefully next time I will get a table and be able to comment more on the atmosphere and experience inside the restaurant but honesty as long as the food is still this good next time, I’ll be happy lol.
