Janik's Cafe — top-tier mexican in Wicker Park. No frills and no gimmicks, just a solid honest room. Friendly without hovering, and owner on site. Ingrid Brito: "One of my favorite places for breakfast, the food is savory and rich"

I didn’t get a chance to actually try the food because the waiters never even approached me.
I was extremely disappointed.

“It was the perfect place to bring my dad on his first visit to Chicago—our meals were satisfying, and the genuine hospitality made the experience even more memorable”
“Ideal breakfast spot.”
Ideal breakfast spot! Cozy vibes but plenty of seating. Quick service and food came out within a few minutes. One of the best breakfasts I have had at a restaurant. Anything with sweet plantains calls my name and the Latin Benedict was awesome and filling. Added bonus that you don’t leave with your hair smelling like grease like many other breakfast spots.

“Stopped for breakfast.”
Stopped for breakfast. Great place to go. The food is delicious for and was served quickly. I had the eggs and polish sausage. My husband had the eggs with skirt steak. The staff is excellent and very friendly. The owner, Filipa, was absolutely wonderful. We had the nicest conversation with her. Definitely will be going back!!! Thank you for the great breakfast and conversation!

Spacious, great atmosphere. Bright and colorful, especially on a sunny spring day. The staff was super attentive and the owner was our server - she was so warm and welcoming and gave great recommendations. Definitely would return. The chilaquiles were incredible.

Janik’s Café is a warm, welcoming neighborhood spot run by Felippa and Wayne Janik—a couple whose roots in Italy and Venezuela bring a unique, personal touch to everything they serve. Their menu blends comfort and heritage in a way that feels both homey and thoughtful. It was the perfect place to bring my dad on his first visit to Chicago—our meals were satisfying, and the genuine hospitality made the experience even more memorable. Starting in May, they’ll be open for dinner Thursday through Saturday, a reflection of their hard work and growing community support.

Chicago Restaurant, Janik's Cafe with owner, Felippa Janik and her husband Wayne, is a true embodiment of the American dream, where two cultures blend in perfect harmony, as they are from Italy and Venezuela. They beautifully integrate their past within their menu, creating a culinary experience that will leave you inspired. Moe had the best steak and eggs and I had a real treat, a fresh toasty waffle with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, a truly uplifting experience. They are opening for dinner Thursday through Saturday starting in May, a testament to their perseverance and dedication. Heading back to San Antonio tomorrow, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the next leg of our journey. We will head to Charleston, South Carolina on the 5th with our friends, eager to explore new culinary delights and share more restaurant reviews to come.

“The skirt steak was 10/10!”
The skirt steak was 10/10!! I ordered mine medium well & it was perfectly cooked. Potatoes and eggs were also really good! First there and the service was great. Parking was the only sucky part, but there’s a hospital nearby with free street parking if you don’t mind walking.
