If you are looking for the absolute best Mexican flare food in Wicker Park, this is it! Liberated Sur is an absolute gem. Every single dish we tried was incredibly flavorful, fresh, and executed perfectly. The balance of traditional roots with a modern twist is spot on. Seriously, it was that delicious. The atmosphere is great and the service is super welcoming. We will definitely be back for more! Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood and craving amazing food.

I came here with my family during a little vacation to Chicago, and it is easily the best food we had during the trip- possibly the best thing I’ve eaten all summer! I ordered the flautas that I expected to be good but really nothing to write home about. Oh how wrong I was. All the food was beautifully prepared looking absolutely wonderful, and yet these flautas tasted EVEN BETTER than they looked. We will very very likely be back if we are back in the area again 😁

Wow! I had been meaning to try this spot and I’m so glad I did. Service was friendly and attentive, and the menu made it hard to decide what to try. I ended up with the shakshuka verde and omg I’m still thinking about it. I can’t wait to go back and try other things!!

Hurry and check this place out!! Such a good spot!! My husband and I have been feeling a little jaded striking out with new restaurants, but this blew us away. Atmosphere was so cute. They had an outdoor patio as well as an atrium. Service was on point with just the right amount of check ins. Shout out to Tino. Stars of the show: Burrata - a little pricey but so unique, refreshing and delicious Pulpo - cooked PERFECTLY. Great portion for the cost. Carne Asada - this was wow. Also cooked perfectly. The goat cheese spread was unreal.

At Libertad Sur, the second chapter unfolds, An atrium of light, all glass and gold. Like dining outside, no matter the day, With sun or with snow, it still feels like May. And when skies are clear and the weather agrees, There’s true outdoor seating that sways with the breeze. Citrus and pistachio, bright on the plate, A salad that whispers, “linger, don’t wait.” Golden beets, oranges, creamy and light, Each bite a balance, each texture just right. Tortillas warm, with beans rich and deep, Pickled onions dancing where bold flavors meet. Slow-cooked meats, tender, full of care, A kitchen that knows how to take you there. A sandwich, crisp, with sauce like a flame, Comfort and craft in a single name. And ceviche—fresh, alive with the sea, Layered in color, in taste, in artistry. But more than the food, it’s the way that they give, Service that makes you feel seen as you live. Welcoming, warm, never missing a beat, They turn every table into a seat you repeat. Five stars, no question, no need to rehearse, Libertad Sur is magic—in plate, place, and verse.

phenomenal place to have dinner! plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. the arepa was amazing, but what i really enjoyed was the papas a la huancaína. i totally recommend the chocolate tres leches. our waiter was very on top of things and quick, and made sure we had a good time. my family and i sat inside, so it was a little bit loud, but that was fully expected. i absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Been driving up to the Skokie location for years. It’s nice to have Libertad in the city. The service was exceptional and food was excellent. The manager Jorge competed two glasses of wine because the bartender made a mistake on our drink order. Will be back there soon.

Phenomenal. The cooking is incredible. The Huaraches took me straight back to Mexico City. I really appreciated their balance of vegetarian and vegan menu options. The vibe (especially the back patio) was a nice reprieve from the neighborhood. It feels like a bit of an oasis. Quiet and bright and serene.

Best meal I’ve had in Chicago in a while after living here 5 years and going out fairly often. It’s rare for a restaurant to totally nail every single dish on the menu - nothing was “just okay,” everything was genuinely fantastic. We got the Brussels salad, hummus (fav), mussels, carne asada, and two vegetarian dishes. Cocktails were fantastic too. And the service is so warm, kind, and genuine. I want to come back 100x!
