Costera Cocina Tulum - Chicago
Costera Cocina Tulum - Chicago — one of Fulton Market's strongest mexican spots. It gets busy, and that's part of the appeal. The drinks match the food in quality, and fast service. Henry Lam: "The ceviche was bright and zesty, the octopus was perfectly tender" [patio]

“The drinks taste good but are a bit too sweet; I recommend coming during happy hour.🍻”

“Amazing food. I love the Al pastor tacos. Churro dessert. Very nice atmosphere. And good service”

“Sa’id gave us the best service! Can’t wait to come back just for him”

“Beautiful atmosphere, great service, & very good pastor tacos.”

“Went for restaurant week and it was so good! Karina was so sweet and attentive.”

“My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our first time here. Our server was so funny and helpful with the menu. He gave really good advice and we were more than satisfied with our choices for our courses. We did restaurant week and left very full with left overs!! Everything was so delicious. Thank you Brentley for your kindness and exceptional hospitality!!!”

“First timers went for restaurant week. The food was amazing. Also, this is one of the most unique restaurants inside! You need to go, now!! Can't wait to return! Our server Megan was fabulous!”

“waiter may have been busy, he took a while to check on our table but he was still super sweet. had a great time overall”

“Went to Costera Cocina Tulum in Chicago for Valentine’s Day and the night was honestly a mix of great food and unnecessary frustration. We booked in advance, but the Fulton Market area was packed and I couldn’t find parking for about 20 minutes, so I called the restaurant to ask if they could extend our reservation. The person on the phone told me they were fully booked and that I’d have to wait unless someone canceled. That already felt stressful, but then we walked in and there were empty tables, and the front desk seated us pretty much right away. So the person on the phone and the host stand clearly aren’t synced, which is annoying when you’re doing your best to be on time. The space itself is beautiful and totally Instagram-worthy, but it’s VERY loud to the point where you can barely hear the person you’re with. We started with drinks, the Mayan Mirage and an old fashioned style drink, and both were pretty average and forgettable. For appetizers we ordered the Peruvian ceviche and the guac. I understand ceviche is seafood, but the smell was so strong I couldn’t eat it and had to send it back, and to their credit the server removed it from the bill with no drama, so kudos for that. The guac was good, but not amazing for the price. The mains were the best part of the whole night: we got the short ribs, the creamy langosta spaghetti, and chimichurri potatoes. For a Mexican place I expected the “Mexican” items to be the highlight, but the pasta was actually incredible and we ate the entire thing, and the short ribs were flavorful, soft, and easily the standout too. Those dishes were so much better than the drinks and appetizers. For dessert we tried the churros two ways with churro cake, cream cheese stuffed churros, dulce de leche ice cream, and chocolate sauce, and it was good. Final note, the tables are very low, you’re seated really close to other tables, and there’s smoke coming up from the floor which looks cool but we hated it. Overall the place looks great and the mains were strong, but between the parking chaos, the reservation confusion, the noise level, and some underwhelming items, it’s a one-time visit for us.”
“I had the best time at this restaurant this past weekend. I've been here a few times and each time has been amazing. The food is very good and the overall ambience is fantastic and unique. What stood out this time was the amazing service by Sa'id. He is truly gifted at making drinks, from the lychee palomas to the tequila shots, each beverage was crafted to perfection. What was expected to be a brief dinner and drink ended up turning into a multiple hour celebration with my friends. At one point, Sa'id even brought out our drinks with his coworker and the strobe lights - I felt like I was VIP at TAO. 10/10 Would come back. Ask for Sa'id.”
“Everything was amazing, the food and drinks were perfectly balanced and very flavorful. The service was excellent and my server Valentin was very helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was wonderful as well, but because I was seated by the window I felt separate from the rest of the nice lighting in the rest of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend though!”
