Jordyn’s Soul Cafe
Jordyn’s Soul Cafe serves “Sunday dinner on any day,” with tender oxtails, perfectly seasoned turkey wings, salmon, pasta, and especially the gravy-rich pot roast empanadas drawing repeat praise. Guests love the soulful music, upbeat atmosphere, generous portions, and welcoming service—great for groups or a relaxed date. However, prices run high, popular items may sell out, and understaffed busy periods can mean long waits.

“Found this place on maps and saw a few pics and said why not, I’m from out of town. Well they didn’t disappoint. Even the local customers were giving us honest reviews. Unfortunately, they were out of a few items we wanted but the other options were still good for us. I had one issue with my food but I was okay with not sending it back. My guy D gave me some options on how it can be handled it and took care of it and accountability. I ordered the oxtails (tender, like butter) rice & cabbage (I needed more of that). My best friends ordered the smothered turkey wings, Mac & cheese, yams, salmon, greens & cornbread (thankfully it was no corn in it, because why). The only thing we would critique to make better would be the smothered turkey wings, we said a lil longer in the oven with the gravy (even tho not a fan of chicken gravy) they would be top tier. I wish we came back or ordered food to go but it’s on our recommendation list. Keep up the good work guys. Oh and don’t forget to order drinks, those are good and strong!”

“Food was fantastic!! Options were pricey but definitely worth it! We ordered Togo and the staff let us wait inside and gave us waters while we waited! We came in with a group of 7 and our food only took about 25-30 mins! Food was very well seasoned with optional additional spice! Bathrooms were clean and well kept and the music was nice though slightly overbearing. My parents thought it was funny that me and the restaurant were both named Jordan 🤣 Overall I would rate the experience a 10/10!!”

“My husband and I visited Jordyn’s on a Sunday afternoon right when they opened at 12:30, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. The music playlist set a great vibe, and both the drinks and food were excellent. Service truly stood out—our hostess/waiter was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was accurate with our orders, which we really appreciated. We received our drinks and food quickly with little to no wait. My husband ordered the salmon, and I had the beef short ribs; we both chose macaroni and cheese and collard greens (with turkey meat) as our sides, and everything was a hit. We’ll definitely be back!”

“Great ambiance great music at the right volume. The host was taking care of alot from taking orders to mixing drinks and even running out to the store to buy the liqour lol but in no way form or fashion was the service terrible, it was a Excellent experience. MAAAAANNNNN those POT ROAST EPINADA'S Are worth a visit and could easily fill you up! The gravy compliments them so well! Everything was seasoned to perfection and cooked for the GOD'S!!!!! The portion sizes were so crazy you were excited to see someone else get their food! The fried okra was definitely prepared in house because that breading was fire! The catfish Excellent! Everything we had that day was excellent! The host definitely deserves whatever credit bonus or recognition you guys give excellent BLACK OWNED ESTABLISHMENT! 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿”

“The place, The waiter, The atmosphere, The food, The drink i had were all great. This is a must go. The pasta great. The turkey wings great. My Steak though i had an issue with. It was well seasoned but chewy and hard to cut through. Before you ask i told him I wanted my steak MEDIUM. So I can't knock the restaurant down because I DIDNT ENJOY MY STEAK. It was depressing because I want a good steak and cant find one. (MY JOURNEY CONTINUES) But everything else is a go. I will be going back to try more food. The Mac was good, those green beans were good, the greens were good and the yams were on point.”

“This is my 2nd time here. Last time we went for brunch. BOTH times they had 1 person working the ENTIRE front of the restaurant... Server, host, bartender, busser, to-go orders, carry-out & Uber orders were all handled by 1 person! That is absolutely insane & I am sure that it is not sanitary. Exhibit A: Look at all the dirty dishes piled up on the BAR. BOTH times they had a nice amount of people in the restaurant. There's absolutely no reason why a DINE-IN restaurant has 1 person doing EVERY job. Furthermore, y'all have a 20% service charge... FOR WHAT? Where is the damn service? I'm really trying with this one because I really like the food, but this level of staffing is insane. Now I have seen the clips of the "reality show" that they are doing, but mind you... my 1st time going was Nov. last year & almost 8 months later nothing has changed. Also, we ordered 2 appetizers, 1 entrée, 2 cocktails, and 2 shooters & our bill was $160: HOW? 🤨 THEN they ran out of liquor... the only thing they had in the "full bar" was vodka & gin. 🥴”

“I went Sunday and had the oxtails and grits and boy were they delicious!!!! I also ordered the flight which were 4 full size drinks lol and they were good but I had so much food I couldn't finish it. The vibe was good my friend and I enjoyed ourselves.”

“I spent $144 supporting this restaurant because I wanted to do something nice for my parents, especially since one of them is currently ill, and this experience was beyond disappointing. I drove OVER AN HOUR from Naperville thinking we were about to enjoy some good food, but instead it felt like I paid premium prices for cafeteria-quality meals. I never mind paying for expensive food if the food is actually GOOD and consistent. That’s why places like Steak48 stay packed because customers know exactly what they’re getting every single time. The jerk shrimp tacos barely had shrimp on them. The “smothered” pork chops were literally fried pork chops with a little thick gravy dumped on top, while the rice was placed in a separate container like nobody understands how smothered meals are supposed to be served. The mac and cheese tasted dry and old. The cabbage was overcooked. The jerk chicken was pink in areas and honestly looked unsafe to eat. My parent literally texted me saying they were scared to eat it because they didn’t want to get sick. The atmosphere was nice and the employee taking orders was polite, but the kitchen completely dropped the ball. At these prices, customers deserve quality, fresh food, proper portions, and consistency. Instead, we ended up wasting money and throwing food away. If I didn’t live over an hour away, I honestly would’ve drove it all back for a refund. This experience is exactly why so many people would rather cook at home these days. I totally deserve a refund but i know how these places are and for the record im black so don’t play a race card. It’s 20% percent gratuity for parties of two or more at this place and this the food you’re getting Do Better”
“Me and my mother came here to visit the Obama Center- which is wonderful. We wanted to go to Hyde Park and wanted soul food. I looked on Tik Tok and this restaurant was recommended. The food is magnificent and service provided by Skylar was excellent. If you frequent Chicago- please stop here. It’s Sunday dinner on any day.”
“I found this place on TikTok, and it absolutely did not disappoint! The food was AMAZING, and the atmosphere and music were perfect. I was a little nervous at first because there was only one person handling the entire front of the house, and it was pretty busy. I wish I could remember his name because he was incredible. He was the host, waiter, bartender, and busser all at once, and he handled everything flawlessly. Despite the crowd, we didn’t have to wait long. Our food came out promptly, he checked on us regularly, and even as more people kept coming in, he never missed a beat. His level of service was truly impressive. I will definitely be back the next time I visit Chicago!”
“As soon as I walked in the restaurant I knew the food was going to be good. I could smell the seasoning! Jay was such a cool server. He was attentive, friendly, and brought on the good vibes!”
