5 Rabanitos Restaurante & Taqueria — well-regarded mexican in Pilsen. The room fills up fast and stays lively. The menu takes creative swings, and lands them, and solid veggie options. "The Chile was great tast but not spicy enough for" — Eduardo Gallardo

“I would recommend going during the week so you are not sitting on to of someone else”
I visited this restaurant on November 10, 2025, expecting authentic Mexican food, but unfortunately, the flavors were very bland.
Food and service was great from everyone but my server. Came alone and ordered the Milanesa de Pollo.
Me and 2 friends went to 5Rabanito’s on Saturday 10/11/25 at 2pm for lunch. I will not be going back again.

“All around a great experience.”
All around a great experience! You should definitely order the traditional queso & the Oaxacan margarita. Eduardo was our server and was extremely kind and helpful. We will be back!

“Loved the atmosphere + food.”
Loved the atmosphere + food. Was quite busy but the wait was not too long. Ceviche was quite fresh + the sauce for it was refreshing. Quesabirria + shrimp empanadas also yum. Best bang for buck was chicken milanesa torta.

“Visited for the first time last weekend.”
Visited for the first time last weekend. I had the costilla de res with Chile Pasilla. The rib was cooked well. The Chile was great tast but not spicy enough for me. My wife had the "special of the day" which was grilled chicken with a butternut squash salsa. It was good as well. We had the empanadas as a n appetizer. They were good , have had better. My wife had a couple spicy Pina drink that was mixed with Mezcal. Will definitely be going back again. For now I'll give 5 Rabanitos a 4.4 overall.

“I've been here a few times and never been disappointed.”
I've been here a few times and never been disappointed. The flavor of the food is consistent. Everyone is always friendly. I would recommend going during the week so you are not sitting on to of someone else. The tables are close together. I highly recommend their guacamole. They serve home made tortillas. They may even make them in the back. The short rib was falling off the bone tender. It just needed a little salt but no real complaints. Chicken tacos were a hot as well. You really can't go wrong with their tacos.

Breakfast was incredible. The pictures speak for themselves. I had the plantains with cheese and Chipotle sauce (it was fantastic) along with the pork belly breakfast. 10/10

The food here was absolutely delicious, full of authentic, flavorful, and homey touches that made it stand out as true Mexican cuisine. The restaurant itself is cozy, clean, and decorated in a super cute way, with vibrant papel picado strung across the space to add a festive and lively feel. Even though the space is bustling, which is always a good sign, it does get a little noisy — despite the sound panels on the ceiling, conversations can still be hard to hear. That said, the lively atmosphere adds to the energy, making it feel like a real Mexican dining experience. The service was great, attentive yet relaxed, and the food came out quickly. I tried a selection of tacos, each one bursting with bold flavors and fresh ingredients. Everything was well-prepared and beautifully plated, the kind of food that makes you feel at home while also celebrating tradition. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot if you’re craving authentic Mexican food in a fun, colorful, and welcoming atmosphere.

Good food nice and relaxed atmosphere but despite the sound panels on the ceiling to absorb the noise level, it was still very hard to hear one’s own conversations. Food was delicious 🤤 I had the spicy pork ribs. Yum 😋

“Absolutely love 5 Rabanitos.”
Absolutely love 5 Rabanitos! It’s hands down my favorite restaurant in Chicago. We make the drive from over an hour away just to enjoy the food and atmosphere here. The patio is our go-to spot, such a great vibe for a meal. The Al Pastor tacos are out of this world, and we keep coming back for them time and time again. We also tried the queso fundido with chorizo and the shrimp empanadas, both of which were delicious and full of flavor. Everything tastes home-cooked, and the salsas are incredible! Only downside is the parking. It's tough to find a spot and we often have to circle the block a few times, but it's totally worth it. Can’t recommend this place enough!
