La Mejikana — trusted mexican in Pilsen. Good energy here, especially on weekends. The bartender knows what they're doing. "The best part about going during the weeknight is there's tons of street parking" — Plus Size in Chicago

“I wasn’t sure how apple would work in a taco, but it actually worked, the sweetness balanced the flavor of the meat and cheese”
I've never been to a Mexican place before that served ketchup with a carne asada dinner.
Update: two years later, food doesn’t taste the same(quality) and they have a controlled portion for each plate.

Whatever masa they used for the tortillas and chilaquiles was super tasty. Both dishes were delicious, I’d come again and get the same exact order. The vibes were also great and music was good.

“We had some outstanding tacos here.”
We had some outstanding tacos here. Both braised beef and pescados were made by some people with soul. The guy that served us was a star, handelung the whole place by himself and working like a human robot. Beers were perfect with a great selection of mexican and south american lagers. Definately you should give this place a try considering the city of Chicago, even with all the theater venues, closes down after 9pm in week end and places like this are quite hard to find

“La Mejikana was pretty packed when I went, but I got a seat right away.”
La Mejikana was pretty packed when I went, but I got a seat right away. The place had a lot of energy, the music going, people talking and laughing, just a fun atmosphere. I ordered a few different tacos because I wanted to try a mix: carne asada, lomito, and fish. The lomito ended up being the winner. It’s marinated ribeye with a slice of panela cheese and even a thin slice of apple. I wasn’t sure how apple would work in a taco, but it actually worked, the sweetness balanced the flavor of the meat and cheese. The fish taco was also really good, fresh, crunchy, and piled with toppings. The carne asada hit that classic taco flavor, juicy and well-seasoned, exactly what I was hoping for. Portions felt just right, filling without being over the top. Service was friendly and pretty fast considering how busy it was. I really enjoyed this spot. Definitely a place I’d go back to and try more from the menu.

“What can I not say.”
What can I not say. The food was top tier and the service was great as well. We ordered the fish tacos, Al pastor wings, and langostinos. Will be back to try other things on the menu as well. Also not to be missed, the drink menu was extremely flavorful and well balanced.

Pulpo Asado and the Stuffed Pina (a pineapple half sliced lengthwise, stuffed with the freshest seafood and melted cheese) are the two dishes that stood out among the diverse offerings. The nine people in our group each ordered different dishes so we could try as much food, and each dish we tried was absolutely bursting with flavor! The neighborhood was bustling and the crowd was energetic. And of course, the warm and welcoming staff was just awesome.

I'm very happy I was able to check out this restaurant! The customer service was excellent, and the food was amazing. I only sampled almost all of the appetizers, and they were all excellent! I'll have to return to sample their major courses!

“Absolutely loved our experience at La Mejikãna in Pilsen tonight.”
Absolutely loved our experience at La Mejikãna in Pilsen tonight! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt so warm, vibrant, and welcoming — it’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some incredible Mexican food. We ordered tacos for dinner, and every single bite was packed with flavor, from the perfectly seasoned meats to the fresh toppings that balanced everything beautifully. You can really tell they put a lot of heart and authenticity into their dishes. After dinner, we couldn’t resist trying their churros for dessert, and wow — they were absolutely delicious! Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, and coated in just the right amount of cinnamon sugar — they were the ideal sweet ending to our meal. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. La Mejikãna is definitely a gem in Pilsen, and we can’t wait to come back and try even more of the menu. Highly recommend if you’re looking for great food, amazing vibes, and a truly satisfying dining experience!

“Great food and cocktails.”
Great food and cocktails! I loved the hidden patio in the back with cute decor. The huarache was super tasty as well as the fish taco. The showstopper was the stuffed cheese chilaquiles with salsa verde! We ordered them as an appetizer, but I could devour an entire serving or two on my own.

Much smaller than I imagined and the atmosphere wasn't my favorite upon walking in, however, the food and drinks blew us out of the water! I ordered a Michelada and it was FIRE. Food was incredible. Honestly anything on the menu you cannot go wrong.

“I went on a Thursday night my first time and I had a great time.”
I went on a Thursday night my first time and I had a great time. Food was amazing. Drinks was great atmosphere was amazing. I’m from California and I feel like nobody can cook Mexican food the way i like it like in cali so I finally found a place out here that has not only good authentic food but their salsa is amazing. I also love that it was very inclusive. I didn’t feel out of place and I was able to join in on the karaoke fun as well. Definitely will go back and definitely recommend. I forgot to take pictures of my tacos because they were so good
