PERILLA korean steakhouse — neighborhood korean in Loop. The design gives it a sharp first impression. The cocktail program is serious. "The Tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and the sauce was so balanced" — Daniela Alvarado

“I really enjoyed my brunch at Perilla Steakhouse.”
I really enjoyed my brunch at Perilla Steakhouse. I had the Korean lunch tray with prime skirt steak, and the steak was just absolutely cooked to perfection in every way. ❤️ The meal was very satisfying, and the staff were so warm and friendly throughout my whole dining experience. The downtown location near the River Walk is also a big plus. Highly recommend!!

Very tasty Korean barbecue, and the vibe of the space was great. We got the premium special and the cuts were extremely tasty. It was very nice spot to have dinner before going to the Chicago theatre.

“Overall, this is a fantastic experience.”
Overall, this is a fantastic experience. I sampled basically the entire menu outside of the grilled meat options. It was all very good, but I highly recommend the Japchae and the Korean Fried Chicken here. The Korean options range in authenticity, so it’s important that you like Korean food if you want to get the most out of your experience! But there are more Western options such as the burger for those that still want to try it. It’s a pretty good burger too! Service was absolutely incredible! They were very friendly and provided a handwritten note as well as some small bites on the house to celebrate our anniversary. They were attentive and gave some good recommendations for our order. I had a Chase Sapphire Reserve perk here for $150 off the meal, so this structure was perfect to maximize the credit. I’ll be returning even without this perk!

“I am so happy I got to try this place.”
I am so happy I got to try this place! It's Korean food on a while other level! I made the reservation for the wrong time but called them on my way and they quickly accommodated the time change! They are located in the L7 Chicago Hotel so we had a very big waiting area that was really beautiful. The hostess came and got us when our table was ready. We we seated in the upper area in one of the booths and were served water right away. Our waiter gave us the menus and he sort of disappeared fpr about 15 minutes.. actually through out the night, he was mostly talking to the female workers when we found ourselves needing him. At one point we have him down and he continued his conversation which I thought was pretty rude.. We ordered 3 A5 Wagyu's, the Kimchi Pork Dumplings, the Tteokbokki, the Japchae, Beef Fat Fries, the Egg Souffle, the Kimchi Fried Rice, Ssam and the Banchan. The A5 Wagyu was on a Rice roll with seaweed paper that was a little too tough to bite through and had caviar on top. It was layered with many different flavors as you ate it but honestly it was missing a wow factor and for $18 a piece, it wasnt worth it.. The Kimchi Pork Dumplings were good but we honestly could have done without them because they were also not impressive.. The Tteokbokki was actually delicious! The best i ever had and it was topped with Chihuahua Cheese that made it so creamy to eat. The Tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and the sauce was so balanced, not too spicy not too saucy just perfectly balanced! It was heavenly! The Japchae was also really good and well made, very simple yet done well. The Beef Fat Fries were a really good side to have at the table as well and they were covered in their house made Beef Talo which was so good! The aoli was also a nice pairing with them. The Egg Souffle was also very nice, simple with spice and seasonings on top. It was light and simple in the best way. The Kimchi Fried Rice was so butter and nutty from their home made Beef Talo! It had a fried egg on top ans came in a stone pot to maintain the temperature. This had to be one of the best Kimchi Fried Rices I have ever had! The Ssam and Bonchon were good but honestly it could have skipped the Ssam. The bonchon was free refills which I always appreciate! But they were also just okay, could have did without them.. For meats we ordered the Picanha, the Prime Short Rib and the Marinated Short Rib. A different server than out original waiter came to out table and asked if we wanted to cook our own meat or if we wanted them to cook it. Which kind of gave me the impression that the didn't want to cook for us. At this point it had been an hour since we had seen our waiter. The dishes were coming out one at a time which was kind of frustrating because I would have liked to enjoy the sides we ordered with the fresh cooked meats. The meats were all really good. I enjoyed the Picanha the most but the server that cooked our meats cooked them medium and left them as pretty big pieces which was kind of hard to eat in one bite. It kind of felt like they were rushing cooking at our table. We had also ordered drinks, the Plank Walker drink and Viva La Vida drink. They were very strong and I would only recommend one per visit.. we ordered 5 drinks total. Overall, some of the best Korean food I have ever had! The bill was $540 with tip and honestly the service should have been better for that price. While I recognize there high quality ingredients are the reason for the cost. I feel there should have been better service and All the dishes should have been impressive, and omly most of them were. I think thwy should have more meat options as well. While I enjoyed the experience, I would only come back to place an order for take out, I wouldn't dine again.. Update Oct 27, 2025 I came back to Perilla with some friends that wanted to try because I was raving about it! The food was just as good with new dishes we tried being even better! Our server Danny was so sweet, showed us such a great time he checked on us all night and made the experience enjoyable!

“My first time here and I got the lunch special with prime skirt steak as my protein.”
My first time here and I got the lunch special with prime skirt steak as my protein. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I loved the 6 sides (rice, soup, kimchi, zucchini, egg omelette, and namul) that it came with as well including miso soup (forgot to take the lid off). My friend loved the burger and fries for her entree. We will def be back soon!

“Expensive but very good food and service.”
Expensive but very good food and service! It was on my list to try and very glad we did. We got a date night. I thought we would have to cook our own food but the server did that for us at the grill and it was quick. If you are Asian and like rice with your meal then I recommend getting the fried rice with it as well. They have a good wine by glass list also

“This was a really good Korean - American restaurant.”
This was a really good Korean - American restaurant! The ambience and cornered fantastic, and Santiago who was taking care of us was so courteous and professional. We ordered the lunch set which came with banchan and the prime skirt steak. The lunch set was great portion and the steak was delicious! The sullungtang was very hearty as well. Lots of tender meat and the soup had a great kick to it. The breakfast sandwich was really good, but probably set us over the edge (2 mains is enough for two people). Finally the Korean milk donut was light and filled with cream, and was not too sweet! Highly recommend :)

“A 100% must if you’re going to be in Chicago.”
A 100% must if you’re going to be in Chicago. The steak melts in your mouth and is seasoned to perfection. Perillas was one of the first things we ate because our hotel room had a restaurant credit and easily was the best thing we ate during our entire trip. We ordered the Korean breakfast tray with grilled mackerel and added the Prime skirt steak. When we came back the following day, we ordered 3 extra servings of the prime skirt steak with the breakfast platter. 😚👌🏽 *Chefs Kiss* Coming from another major city (SF) where we have excellent food options, it can sometimes be hard to impress. Don’t sleep on this restaurant because it’s in a hotel. I’ll be stopping in as often as I can the next time I’m there. How this restaurant doesn’t have a Michelin star yet is beyond me. The desserts were also delicious and not too sweet! The crew working there were so authentic and genuine, that it felt like we were catching up with old friends. Stellar crew! Leslie was sweet, knowledgeable, helpful, and an absolute delight. Santiago has worked there for over 20 years of his life (if my memory serves me) and was an absolute professional. Knowledgeable and very kind. Abigail was also really nice and attentive!

“One of the top meals we’ve had in Chicago.”
One of the top meals we’ve had in Chicago! The food was amazing and the service was spectacular! As a cherry on top, we learned the story behind how Perilla came to be from Executive Chef Lim, which was heartwarming and touching — a ton of care and intentionality has been poured into this restaurant and the leadership cares deeply for their guests! Definitely give it a try!
