Itoko — top-tier japanese in Lakeview. Modern space that photographs well but eats even better. Good cocktails round out an already strong menu, and no long waits. Dany Chheang: "The steak robata was a highlight, perfectly grilled and packed with rich, smoky flavor"
Spent $100 per person and ordered 12 different dishes, yet the only ones that lived up to the price and reviews were the uni sushi and TCD Tuna.
Beyond Disappointing – Terrible Service and Zero Flexibility We had a 4:30 PM reservation on New Year’s Eve, but the experience was a complete disaster.

Woah!! Will definitely be returning and adding to my happy hour rotation. I tried a little bit of everything. The nigiri were all quite flavorful. The scallop roll was quite good, I’d definitely order it again and try some additional dishes. I also really liked the salmon dip and the lychee martini. Staff were super friendly and attentive. The space is beautiful!! See yall soon. 🫶🏾 Update: tried the shishito peppers, shaken kato wings, and the ebi tom yum hand roll 😮💨😮💨 they not playing around in that kitchen it’s serious!!!! 10/10. The black garlic mayo under the peppers took me clear out. So good. I love it here so much.

“For my girlfriend’s birthday, we wanted to give Itoko a try.”
For my girlfriend’s birthday, we wanted to give Itoko a try. We had walked by a couple times and thought it looked super cute. When we came inside, we were greeted by a gorgeous dining room. Itoko has a gluten-free menu that is celiac-safe. My girlfriend particular loved the Ebi Tom Yum. I thought the yellowtail nigiri was also ferocious. For dessert, they have a soy milk panna cotta that is really delicious and refreshing as well.

“Itoko absolutely nails it.”
Itoko absolutely nails it. From the moment you walk in, the space feels calm, warm, and intentional. The bar is beautiful without trying too hard. Soft lighting, clean lines, and a relaxed energy that makes you want to linger, whether you are there for brunch or a long conversation over drinks. The food is where things really shine. The egg soufflé is light, fluffy, and deeply comforting, with just enough richness from the cheese and bacon to feel indulgent without being heavy. The honey butter toast is a standout. Perfectly toasted bread, creamy honey butter, and roasted strawberries that bring just the right balance of sweetness and acidity. It is simple in concept and executed flawlessly. The kabocha pancakes are incredible. Tender, lightly spiced, and paired with a pecan praline sauce that feels thoughtful rather than overpowering. They manage to be both cozy and refined. The deviled eggs are elevated and playful, with curry, bacon, and chives coming together in a way that makes you want to order another plate immediately. The steak and eggs deserve special mention. Perfectly cooked steak, kimchi fried rice with real depth, and a sunny side egg that ties everything together when the yolk breaks. It is bold, satisfying, and beautifully plated. Even the smaller details impress. The early bird menu is smart and welcoming, the presentation is lovely across the board, and everything arrives looking as good as it tastes. Nothing feels rushed, and nothing feels like filler. Itoko is one of those places that feels special without being precious. Thoughtful food, a great atmosphere, and a clear sense of care in every detail. An easy five stars and a spot I will happily return to again and again.

“Great happy hour sushi.”
Great happy hour sushi! I came in with some friends for happy hour at the bar and we were glad to find seating, as it got quite busy. We were glad to have a wide variety of options for happy hour, including the Itoko, which appeared to be like their take on an old fashioned! For starters, we had a cucumber salad and gyoza, both of which were super yummy, though the crispy skirt on the gyoza was unevenly cooked (as pictured). The star of the show, however, was the fish - really fresh and great quality! On some of the pieces I ordered, I found the rice to be unevenly cooked, with some of it being cooked nicely and some of it being slightly undercooked. Bar seating was a bit cramped, but the high chairs themselves were comfortable and had good lumbar support. Service at the bar was top notch, attentive and diligent. I’ll definitely need to go back soon!

“We sat outside at Itoko in Chicago, and the service was excellent, everyone was friendly and attentive the entire time.”
We sat outside at Itoko in Chicago, and the service was excellent, everyone was friendly and attentive the entire time. One of our sushi rolls took a little while to arrive, but our server let us know in advance, which I appreciated. The ramen was decent, but the shishito peppers were incredible, easily the highlight of the meal. The cocktails were also fantastic and well-balanced. Overall, a great experience with good food, thoughtful service, and a relaxing outdoor atmosphere. I’d definitely come back.

“really enjoyed my happy hour meal at itoko.”
really enjoyed my happy hour meal at itoko. came to celebrate my birthday a little early since i work all week and on my bday so im celebrating on the day i have off :) i made a reservation for 4:30, like right when they open, walk in about a few minutes (2-3 min) after iirc and it is already full, patio is filling up, everyone is coming in thru the door, ppl are being quoted long waits as walkins have filled up atm. clearly a very busy restaurant, atl at happyhour (and rightfully so) . i was seated at the sushi counter and had a lovely and very speedy (in a great way :) i love efficient dining sometimes) and friendly service from staff. the place was incredibly busy and ppl were constantly moving and shuffling around by the counter and kitchen, but it was nowhere near bothersome and as i looked around, all the tables around me were quickly filling . i got a few items, tako jr handroll, xo scallop handroll, and ebi tom yum hand roll w a lychee martini to start loved the handrolls, my fave had to be the tako jr handroll as the two tuna and tako go so well together, with the condiments suiting it perfectly. ebi tom yum was also great, loved the lime it came with, but while i truly loved it, i wish there was some more crispy shallots or something to give it a lil more oomf. not a complaint, just a nitpick ig. as for the scallop handroll, i was fine with it but honestly would rather try to salmon looking back. i love scallops but tend to prefer them outside of sushi restaurants ive noticed. all overall very delish tho, would try all again excpt for the scallop, id just get another takotuna or try the salmon. lychee martini was good but shrug its fine? next i had ordered the shrimpa salada and nezake cocktail which both i really quite loved. i wish i could order a bigger shrimpa salada as it was so delish and i loved how it was all put together :) the tiny bay shrimp in the tofu sesame dressing is soooo cool and the parm crisps add the perfect crunch to the salad. nezake cocktail has to be one of my fave cocktails ive had ever. perfectly hits what i need in a tea cocktail. it is exactly as it says, smooth and complex. beautiful, im watering thinking about it. will deffo come back again :) mint was my server and she was quite lovely! im always a bit awkward and nervous but she worked to make me comfortable and enjoy my experience :) would dine again edit 09/25: i come here all the time now came in again for early bird brunch always super kind attentive staff and amazing bites i never tire of itoko ! genuinely a staple if i know im wanting to have a nice sit down meal, shrimpa salad is a MUST ORDER , ube muffins at brunch r Great, maki rolls are delish as are the hand rolls, burger is good but the fries are unreaaaal :p so yummy. pls dont hesitate to dine here

“What a wonderful night for a tasting on Monday.”
What a wonderful night for a tasting on Monday! Pleasantly surprised. All dishes were thoughtfully created and so flavorful, served perfectly temperature wise. Couple of things I’d suggest improving to match the ambiance and predicted value: bathroom cleanliness and loudness of the crowd. Maybe for special dinners like that mentioning to people to soak with their lower voices to be respectful of other people. Some people were almost Claremont talking and lighting so loud it was utterly uncomfortable and painful.

“A nice Luxury Japanese restaurant.”
A nice Luxury Japanese restaurant. They serve more than just sushi who want Japanese food that is not sushi. I have been there for both Dinner and Brunch. Do not sleep on the brunch as well. Photo is the Lox from the Brunch.
