ICHI by Torino — a Wilmette japanese find that regulars keep close. Well-priced. Mona Hanna: "The bentos are delicious and all components well done, and we hear the ramen is incredible as well"

“Came to the restaurant after visiting our favorite dentist next door”
We had 2 different baos, pork donburi, and korokke delivered- I’m sure the staff is great but the food was just not good, very bland and dry- perhaps the ramen is better?

I have been here maybe ten times and everytime the service is quick and food is so good and tastes like a home cooked meal. The onigiri and bao $12 meals are my favorite to get as they are so filling and are a nice hearty meal without burden.

“My family and I were nearby and hungry.”
My family and I were nearby and hungry. Little did we know this would be some of the most delicious Japanese food we’ve had! The bentos are delicious and all components well done, and we hear the ramen is incredible as well. Staff very kind and outgoing, great vibes overall.

“Nice clean casual spot with minimal seating.”
Nice clean casual spot with minimal seating. Got the Chicken karrage bowl was good with curry sauce they have other sauce options hope to try again my meal came with miso soup. And decided to try the bao the bun was good but felt the pork was a bit dry and kimchi made it a bit soggy messy. Overall great experience hope to go again

“I am so excited that I found this place.”
I am so excited that I found this place. It is near Wayfair by I-94. I have been looking for decent Japanese place without having to go to Schaumburg. This place has food that Japanese local would eat. I love their yakiniku beer bento and also I buy their onigiris for my kids snack before their activities. Their baos and ramen are basically the same as what Torino offers. (They are owned by the same owners.) It is primarily for takeout orders but there is space you can eat-in. The front staff is very friendly.

Ichi is a great little Japanese place with a fairly large menu compared to its size. I loved the large communal table and great decor. The food is awesome, try the Japanese fried chicken.

“We stopped here on a whim when we were in the area & so glad we did.”
We stopped here on a whim when we were in the area & so glad we did! Friendly service and the curry ramen was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cook egg, slurpy noodles and I’ll be thinking about that curry broth 🤤. BF got the spicy tonkotsu pork which he also enjoyed and said it was that addictive kind of spiciness. We will definitely go out of our way to come back !!! & Looking forward to trying other menu items.

“This place has the same great food as Torino, but I don’t feel as self-conscious about walking in wearing crocs.”
This place has the same great food as Torino, but I don’t feel as self-conscious about walking in wearing crocs. There’s not a ton of seating but it makes sense since Ichi, according to their website, is focused on fast and casual approach. They have electronic ordering kiosks inside which are nice if you have social anxiety like I do. I can walk to Torino, but I would come back here for the boba. I can’t wait to see how this place grows.

“Came to the restaurant after visiting our favorite dentist next door.”
Came to the restaurant after visiting our favorite dentist next door. We ordered a karaage ramen and a Kotsu-Dom. Ramen was well prepared and very flavorful. However, the fried pork chop was a little dry and smoothered with dipping sauce, way too much for my taste, in the kutsodom. Because the restaurant is set up for take-out, so everything is packaged in to-go containers. It takes some assembling for the ramen, but domburi is similar to a bento ready to eat. Although it's a take-out restaurant, there are seatings available, a very large communal table and a few seats by the window. We'll definitely return to try more items on their menu.
