Il Porcellino — top-tier italian in River North. Order the Lasagna. Candlelit and unhurried, ideal for a slow dinner. Victoria Martinez: "The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was creamy and smooth without tasting too heavy"

“Over thanksgiving break my family and I went out to eat here.”
Over thanksgiving break my family and I went out to eat here. When we arrived, it was busy with people enjoying their evening, and the restaurant had dim lighting, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The walls were decorated with photographs, both red and white wine bottles, and they had light fixtures made from traditional Chianti wine bottles wrapped in wicker casting mostly used in the mid 19th century through the 1980s. The design of this restaurant made me feel like I was in Italy all over again. Our server was very kind and attentive to our requests, which is what made most of our experience so pleasant. I ordered the Rigatoni Alla Vodka which was very delightful. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was creamy and smooth without tasting too heavy. Also, their portion sizes were balanced and not over the top. We also ordered calamari as an appetizer to share with each other. It was delicious and even included fried slices of peppers as well as marinara sauce. I will say the sauce was a little bit more on the spicy side than I would have liked, but everyone has a different preference to how much spice is in their food. Other than that, the calamari was very enjoyable. Later into the night, for dessert we ordered tiramisu. It had a sweet cream with the taste of caffeine in it. It was served in a small silver tray which I believed was perfect after the big meal we had just had. Overall, Ill Porcellino is a place that can make you feel at home while still enjoying a night out with friends or family. The atmosphere, service, and food all combine to create a wonderful experience. If I ever get the chance to return, I would do so in a heartbeat. I highly recommend to those in Chicago searching for an Italian restaurant that this is one of the best.

All I have to say is WOW! If you are visiting Chicago, or just looking for a new place to try, I highly recommend. We stopped in for Happy Hour and were blown away by the multiple dishes they have on the menu in addition to great drink specials! Huge shout out to our bar tenders Myles and Dillion for making our visit extra special and for being so personable!!

“I enjoyed every aspect of the Friday evening.”
I enjoyed every aspect of the Friday evening. It has a great atmosphere, music levels were just right. The food was top notch. Garlic bread was awesome, a must have. Italian sausage and grilled calamari were so yummy. Pasta being tasty is just an understatement. One of the highlights to our Chicago visit!

“We tried a few things here: grill calamari, Brussels sprouts, gnocchi, lasagna and the Italian donuts.”
We tried a few things here: grill calamari, Brussels sprouts, gnocchi, lasagna and the Italian donuts. The food was good. Nice ambience! We had a reservation so we didn’t have to wait, but it was pretty busy for a Monday night. My favorite was the calamari. I do wish it was a little more grilled, more charred. The texture of the gnocchi was good. The sauce was good, not too salty or sour. The lasagna was rich and tall. The bacon in Brussels sprouts were pretty thick and not tiny - we liked that.

“Please make reservations.”
Please make reservations! It gets busy so make it easier for the host! The food was actually so good and our server was super sweet. For the price too, this is one of the few restaurants where i’m actually full and I didn’t spend like a thousand bucks on 2 leafs and a scallop. The atmosphere is amazing and warm and the music makes it feel rustic and fancy. So if you wanna spend a little more on pasta but feel a bit fancy on a Sunday night come here!

“A fantastic Italian restaurant.”
A fantastic Italian restaurant. The grilled calamari with arrabbiata sauce is highly recommended, light and spicy, perfect for hot weather. It’s best to book ahead for the weekend, as walking in around 4 p.m. barely secured seats at the bar.
