ROOP Chicago Innovative Indian Restaurant & Cocktail Bar — neighborhood indian in West Loop. Order the Chili Cheese Kulcha. It gets busy, and that's part of the appeal. "Loved the prawns ghee roast, rich in flavor and perfectly cooked" — Manisha Barse

“We got the Butter Chicken - which was one of the best butter chickens I’ve had, the Lamb Shank Nihari - was a bit too overwhelmingly spicy for me but the meat just fell off the bones, the Pork Belly Crackling - was overall good but a bit sweet in my opinion, and the Whole Sea bass - was excellent and probably one of the best dishes we had this afternoon and the sauce complimented it very well Finally, to end it all we ordered a mango sorbet and a scoop of the pistachio gelato which was a complementary celebratory dessert both of the two were excellent”
I would not recommend this place at all.
Oh my goodness, half the items on the menu were missing when we asked for them, and the menu looked out of date.
Usually enjoy Roop(prev Rooh) but food quality has declined - paneer was hard and rubbery instead of the usual fresh texture.
“Roop is one of our favorite spots in West Loop.”
Roop is one of our favorite spots in West Loop. The food is upper scale and almost too beautiful to eat. The staff is incredibly kind and accommodating. Will 100% be back!

“Finally tried this place and it was fantastic.”
Finally tried this place and it was fantastic. We had the sweet potato chat, crab cake, mixed grill, and butter chicken and all were excellent. The service was on point and prompt, but the drinks were a bit slow (in fairness the server apologized for the bar delay both times). The decor and ambiance were great but the restaurant was oddly cold for us that evening. Will definitely go back to try more items, especially the lamb shank which someone ordered next to us which looked and smelled amazing.

My first experience at a Michelin star restaurant was unforgettable . We reserved a table during summer 2025 and went to a dinner date with my Husband .This helped us to avoid waiting time . We took the three course meal -Appetizer we order :1)Jack Fruit Cutlet which is super delicious ,lil crunchy from outside and I will defintley go back for this .It has been more than 6 months but I still remember the taste : must try. 2) Sabudana Vada is also super delicious and flavorful must try . Entree : we order Naan and Panner Pasanada which tasted ok . Dessert ; Must try gulab jamun cheesecake served with icecream it's very delicious .

“The food here at Roop is EXQUISITE.”
The food here at Roop is EXQUISITE. So many interested flavor profiles and textures in every dish. The sweet potato chaat was complex and delicious. Masala sweet potatoes with tempura battered spinach, mint chutney, and raspberry puree. It was a fabulous mix of flavors and textures, 10/10 I also got the tandoori cauliflower, it was lovely. It was not soggy or too crispy, just right. The heat was medium, not terribly spicy. The sauce was fabulous. The cocktail menu is fascinating, ayurvedic based. I've never seen this before, so I was quite excited to try a drink! I got the jasmine oasis. Tobias was lovely and attentive. I really enjoyed him. Overall, you are paying for an experience- not just food. I am quite happy with my time here. I recommended it to quite a few people!

“I was really excited to come to Roop because I love Indian food in all its forms, whether it's...”
I was really excited to come to Roop because I love Indian food in all its forms, whether it's traditional, fusion, experimental, or just Indian-inspired cocktails. The meal definitely delivered some highs and a couple of dishes I'd skip, but overall it was a fun night. The chili cheese kulcha was incredible, warm and gooey and the kind of thing you immediately want more of. It paired well with the butter chicken. Shrimp koliwada was one of my favorites of the night with that smoky tandoori flavor. The Goan crab cakes came with a thick rich gravy that I really liked even if the crab itself was a little more subtle. Butter chicken was good, creamy and comforting, but not as memorable as some of the other plates. The lamb shank nihari was tender but flavor-wise didn't wow me. Dessert was the star. The gulab jamun cheesecake was the perfect ending and honestly worth the trip alone. For drinks I had the Hot n' Gold cocktail with passion fruit, tequila, and chili mango purée. It was so delicious I ordered a second one. Our waiter was attentive and super nice the whole night. The ambience was dimly lit and just right for a date night. We were seated upstairs and the space turned out to be bigger than we expected. I'd come back for the small plates, cocktails, and definitely the gulab jamun cheesecake!

“I have seen a few negative reviews on this restaurant, but this is to set the haters straight.”
I have seen a few negative reviews on this restaurant, but this is to set the haters straight. My partner and I have been here a dozen times and we have not had a better experience at any other restaurant. The staff is professional, amazingly timed, and always caring about their customers. The food… the food is one of our favorites that we have had in the US and we are food people. We have tried a bunch of different restaurants all across the US and in many different countries. The food here is amazing and very well curated. There is not a dish I’ve had here that wasn’t amazing. It is true that it’s not 100% authentic food… but that’s in the name of the restaurant? It’s meant to be innovative versions of popular Indian dishes. So if you’re looking for delicious food, excellent service, and a great night please go support this local business. If you’re looking to complain and be overly picky about a tasting menu, maybe order exactly what you want rather than expecting the chefs tasting menu to be perfect for you. Thank you staff and chefs of this restaurant for many amazing date nights and family dinners we have had here!

“Roop is a fantastic place to try elevated North Indian street food.”
Roop is a fantastic place to try elevated North Indian street food. The vibe of the restaurant is amazing, and the staff are incredibly friendly. The dishes I had were the chili cheese kulcha, tandoori cauliflower, sweet potato chaat, daal makhani, and paneer pasanda. They were all delicious and spoke to traditional Indian cuisine while being elevated.

Roop used to be Rooh earlier , and they still haven’t removed their hoarding from previous name , so it’s little confusing. They have seating both on the lower and upper floors. The menu is limited but it was delicious, really enjoyed their cocktails and sabudana tikki . Overall the food was good , but their garlic naan didn’t meet our expectations. They don’t have a tandoor so they make naans in the electric oven. The service was fantastic. Nitish was not only very friendly but also very attentive. The drinks and the food came in quickly. Since we went there to celebrate the birthday, Nitish brought us Mango Sorbet dessert as a sweet gesture . Would love to go back next time we are in town.
