Ghareeb Nawaz UIC
Ghareeb Nawaz UIC is a beloved, no-frills Pakistani spot where students and regulars return for generous, budget-friendly portions of butter chicken, chili chicken rice, and chicken biryani—often enough to feed two. Massive potato samosas, chewy fresh naan, and creamy mango lassi round out the meal, with quick service and welcoming staff. Quality and spice can vary, and hours may be limited seasonally.

“Greatest Pakistani good. Almost or maybe just as good as my moms biryani and that’s HUGE”

“I love Ghareeb Nawaz. I used to go all the time when I went to UIC, and it slaps every single time. I was craving butter chicken, so I ordered for “dine-in”, and they were so generous with the portions. The food came out super quickly too, and the guy behind the counter was really nice. I also got a potato samosa, which was absolutely massive, and it paired so well with the white sauce. The mango lassi was creamy and refreshing, and it balanced out the meal perfectly. Honestly, the leftovers might’ve hit even harder; I reheated everything later and it was still just as good. Comfort food, huge portions, fast service, and consistently delicious. I love Ghareeb.”

“Best food ever! The food I ordered was delicious. All the food items on the menu should be tried. Samee has amazing customer service skills and explains all items slowly and clearly. He even gave me an item to taste before I bought it and that was very nice of him. I know I will be back soon and will definitely tell my family and friends about this place. It is in front of UIC in Chicago and a lot of students eat here. My son brought me here since we were in the city and I am glad I came here. Thank you Samee for your hospitality and exceptional customer service. We appreciate you!!! 😊”
“Love this place. Good food at a good price. Butter chicken, chicken biryani are on point.”
“I’ll be honest, I was a little hesitant to try this place because of the mixed reviews, but I’m really glad I did. I ordered it on DoorDash and got the butter chicken with naan and extra white rice. Everything was really good. The portion of chicken was generous and the sauce had a nice level of heat, not too spicy, just really flavorful and balanced. The naan was fresh, warm, and perfectly chewy. It really brought the whole meal together. For the price, the portions and quality were definitely worth it. If you’re unsure because of the reviews, I’d say go ahead and try it. I’ll definitely be ordering again.”
“Price & portions so good you’d think you’re living in early 2000s. A single plate of Biryani that’s like 12 dollars top has enough contents to feed two people. Can’t recommend enough especially if you’re living near UIC campus.”
“Love this joint. Fed me good all throughout time at UIC. Gufran and Sami do a great job!”
“7 Years Ago: Spicy, fast, food coma. Edit: Wow that was 7 years ago. It's a no frills kind, but my goodness the flavor profile of their Butter Chicken bowl keeps me coming back. I recommend the Chili Chicken Rice as well.”
“During summer this place has restricted hours. E.g. today Wednesday it was not open at 10:24 AM as claimed.”
“Taste very good, spicy for moderation too, price perfect for students in. University.”
