“Fantastic meal, great variety of food and all the meats were cooked very well - the chicken Basant and duck Basant were the stars of the show for me, the the tandoori meats were good but could have come with onions and been a little more charred”

“The food was amazing.”
The food was amazing! We had the malai kofta, the fish basant and the chicken tikka and a great garlic naan. Everything was nicely presented and full of flavor. We will definitely come back!

Fantastic meal, great variety of food and all the meats were cooked very well - the chicken Basant and duck Basant were the stars of the show for me, the the tandoori meats were good but could have come with onions and been a little more charred. The chutney was elite though. Big fan of the Milai cilantro, creamy and rich and with chicken it would be even better. The naan was good, it could have been a bit more buttery. The gulab jamun cheesecake tasted a bit more like a basque cheesecake - very good but little reminder of gulab jamun. I liked the ambiance here a lot - very lowkey, but nicely presented. I would come back here again.

“Dining experience was pleasant.”
Dining experience was pleasant. Restaurant has a good ambience and food was good. Not the most authentic Indian fare, but has a good twist to it.

“Hands-down the best Indian food in Chicago, period.”
Hands-down the best Indian food in Chicago, period. A definitive modern take, Basant pushes the boundaries to innovate on classic dishes and does an exceptional job to stay true to the taste and quality of the food. Highlights on their menu include their jackfruit cutlet, fish Basant, and the chole. Do not pass on the chole! Better than how my mom would make it (although I would never say that to her face 🙃) We look forward to returning and trying their brunch menu next!

“Basant was a really nice experience.”
Basant was a really nice experience! We came here with a reservation on a Friday evening, wasn’t super crowded but still fairly full. The interior looked nice and fancy. We ordered the Amritsari Fish and Chips and Chettinad Fried Chicken for appetizers and they were both really good, especially the fish. For the main dishes, we got the paneer tikka (wasn’t that great), the duck basant (pretty good) and the lamb shank nihari (absolutely amazing)! The gulab jamun cheesecake for dessert although was just some gulab jamuns stuffed into a cheesecake, it tasted amazing, so I have no complaints. If you want a drink, would recommend trying the chai tai. One of the better Indian places I’ve tried in chicago, would definitely recommend it!

“I really loved the atmosphere.”
I really loved the atmosphere. The service is very nice everyone so polite. Very pleasant experience. The food was good as well. The best was the Mushroom Kulcha w/Truffle Garlic Butter was to die for. I wish I could eat that every day!! It pared perfectly with my lentil soup. Lamb chops could be a meal in itself these were some thick chops and with plenty of fries which I didn't expect. (my only comment and it's personal taste the reason I didn't rate 5 on the food is the two items I got were a little salty for my tastes so even though the flavor on the soup was excellent I couldn't finish it. Also, being Greek, we eat a lot of lamb chops and here I tasted a twinge of gaminess which I personally do not prefer but otherwise they were really good cooked to perfection and looked delicious just need to mention that for anyone with that taste profile.)

“We came here for lunch on a weekend.”
We came here for lunch on a weekend. Having made a reservation online already, we were seated immediately. We tried the chili chicken and jackfruit cutlets for appetizers. The chicken was great, I thought the jackfruit cutlet probably needed a little more spices to flavor it up but was good nevertheless. We tried a cocktail - Paan Chicagowala which had hints of paan or betel leaf and it was fantastic! For our mains, we had malai kofta and laccha parantha. Both were delicious. The laccha parantha was just perfection! Could not try any desserts but we will be back again for that. The service was impeccable. Overall, loved our experience and I recommend dining here for any of your special occasions.

“Basant was great.”
Basant was great. The service was very welcoming. Right from the hostess seating us to the waiters being attentive to small details, we had an impeccable service. The food was outstanding. Not the most authentic but has a great spin to traditional Indian food. The gulab jamoon cheesecake stole the show. I'm looking forward to being back and trying other items on the menu.
