Hopleaf
Hopleaf — among the best pub grub in Andersonville. Loud in the best way, with real pulse to the room. Worth ordering a drink, because the bar holds its own. "Brisket was rich and the sauerkraut was great with it" — Elizabeth Hadden [$$, patio]

“Summer squash was one of the best veg entrees we’ve had in a while. It’s a noisy but friendly crowd. Too many good things to choose from.”

“We had another fantastic dinner at Hopleaf! Sarah was a lovely server. My friend's go to beer was not on the menu as usual so she brought two options for my friend to try as alternate choices. The burger was delicious. 🤤🍔 It was two patties that were so crispy and American cheese. I added the bacon and got the special sauce on the side. I think next time I might get avocado if they have that as an option. I also might get cheddar if they have it instead of American. I also upgraded to the mac and cheese for six bucks. It was pretty solid mac and cheese. I would definitely get it again. And I'm very picky about my mac and cheese. Shy was also very amazing when I asked for leftover containers in my very OCD fashion. Shy knew exactly what I needed before I even asked which I appreciated. I just wish they had more outside seating! The wait for outside was an hour so we opted to eat inside and at 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday we were able to get a seat right away. But shortly after it filled up. So I would recommend getting there 6:00 or before on the weekend.”

“This was a fantastic dining experience. The food was amazing, the staff was welcoming and wonderful. The selection of drinks is overwhelming in a good way. We sat outside and it was comfortable and charming. Had a great time and look forward to trying more things.”

“We had great beers and dinner here last week! As a lover of Belgian beers, they had two of my very favorites on tap that I have only ever been able to find in Belgium, so that was an awesome surprise. Great craft selection as well; highly recommend the mussels. Photo shows the mussels for one person including the mountain of fries that came with them; and that was what was left after eating dinner! Cute little patio area as well.”

“Hopleaf is one of those places that feels special from the moment you walk through the door. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting, making it perfect for everything from a casual get-together with friends to a relaxed date night. Even when it's busy, the restaurant maintains a comfortable and welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. The food and drinks are incredible, and the beer selection is one of the highlights. There are so many unique options to choose from that it can be difficult to decide, but the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and always happy to offer recommendations. The service from everyone we interacted with was excellent and added to the overall experience. Between the outstanding food, impressive drink selection, and charming atmosphere, Hopleaf is a place I would highly recommend and happily return to again and again.”

“Hopleaf has been on North Clark Street in Andersonville since 1992 and operates on a simple principle: no screened distractions, no live entertainment, no games. Just drinking, eating, and talking. The bar area up front has dark wood and a warmth to it that feels earned rather than designed, and the dining room in the back is quieter and more suited to a full meal. The back beer garden patio is one of the better outdoor spots in a Chicago summer. It is 21 and over throughout. The beer list is the main event, 62 taps plus hundreds of bottles, with a focus on Belgian styles that goes deep enough that you can spend a long time just reading it. Each Belgian beer comes in its proper branded glass, which is a small detail that matters. The bartenders know the list and will make you a recommendation if you ask. On the food side, the mussels and frites are the most talked-about dish on the menu and for good reason. They arrive in a large pot, steamed properly in a white wine and herb broth, fleshy and briny with good bread alongside and thin Belgian-style frites for dipping in the remaining broth. The CB&J, which is a grilled cheese made with cashew butter and fig jam on thick bread, sounds unconventional for a beer bar and is one of the most memorable things on the menu. The brisket Reuben with Swiss and house dressing on rye rounds out a strong sandwich section. The crispy Brussels sprouts with bacon and a sweet-tart glaze also show up frequently in what people remember after. If you make it to Andersonville for any reason, Hopleaf is the place to end up.”

“A special gastropub focused on origional foods such az mussels and frites, duck ruebeb and a comllete menu of the same style. Pkace has its own vibe as a bar and a meetup joint. The beer selection is complete including the glasses by brand and style. Very origional. One of the places the define the chicago experience”

“A stellar, top notch experience. The owners are masters. World renowned.”

“Great Brewpub experience on the North Side. Massive selection of Belgian style beer including some unique glassware. I ordered the burger, as usual. Large, quality beef patties, smashed and crispy. A bit sloppy and a lot of food to finish but delicious all around. Significant amount of cheese, so be prepared for a meltdown. Fries and sauce were crispy and full of garlic. I would give the burger an 8.8 out of 10”

“Incredible food and drinks in a gorgeous bustling spot. Service from all staff was lovely.”
