Obélix — established french in River North with a loyal following. Order the Beef Wellington. It gets busy, and that's part of the appeal. "The Foie-co is such a unique bite and the Beef Wellington is the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant" — Pete West

“Obelix punches well above its weight.”
Obelix punches well above its weight. The duck is aged and prepared to a T. The holiday squab pithivier is special. Every bite you could sense the careful and thoughtful prep of the days leading to serving it.

“Beautiful beautiful evening.”
Beautiful beautiful evening! Can’t say enough good things about this place. Everything was excellent from FOH to BOH to bar and then table. Grateful to have experienced — had been on my list for a very long time. Their menu is extremely unique and creative, touching on French classics with some updates twists. The night went like this … Oysters, Caviar tartlettes, Foie gras on crispy rice, Gem salad, French onion soup, Pasta with king crab and mussels, Boeuf côte cooked perfectly, and Port and a Swiss roll cake with rosemary ice cream. WHEW!!! 🙏🏽🙌🏽🥵🤤 Gotta give it up for the amazing staff here. Thank you for a beautiful night!

“Dined here for lunch after hearing so much about it.”
Dined here for lunch after hearing so much about it. I was shocked by how empty it was. The food was good and was a great light lunch. I had the macarons with fois gras, the escargot, and the duck salad. The macarons were good. I would have liked a little more fois gras as I felt the flavor was light, but I thought it was a fun dish and would get it again. The escargot was escargot. Nothing special about it, just well executed. I appreciated that the escargot was not sandy at all so good on the kitchen for making sure everything was properly cleaned. The Salade Lyonnaise Connard was very good and interesting. I don't think the presentation is as good as it can be, or that it makes it look very appetizing, but the flavor was great. I would definitely order it again. Overall, very good French food which is available at a reasonable price in a nonstuffy restaurant.

“I have had lunch, dinner, half-price bottle Monday, and Obelix conquers every time.”
I have had lunch, dinner, half-price bottle Monday, and Obelix conquers every time. However, the steak frites sandwich for brunch is a weekend getaway. This handheld magic is the finest culinary staycation in town. It tastes just as good as it looks. One bite and you’re considering ordering another. Pair responsibly with the Moroccan carrots, and layer in a French red. The pistachio croissant. A must have! Made possible by a very welcoming, authentic, and knowledgeable staff. See you soon!

Obélix in Chicago impresses with its perfectly cooked steak-frites, tender and rich with a peppery sauce that lingers beautifully. The ratatouille is a standout too — vibrant, elegant, and full of classic French flavor with a modern touch.

“Had the foie gras and pancakes — deliciously decadent.”
Had the foie gras and pancakes — deliciously decadent. The maple gastrique was something I’d never heard of before, and it struck a perfect balance of sweet and sour. I loved how the dish beautifully blended French and American influences. In a perfect world, the space would have a bit more of that classic French bistro feel — but that’s me being extremely picky. Ultimately, the food was brilliant and the service impeccable.

“Dinner at Obelix was one of our highlights on our visit to Chicago.”
Dinner at Obelix was one of our highlights on our visit to Chicago. The food was fabulous and the staff was fun, friendly and knowledgeable. We went there for the foie gras and was not disappointed. We had the Macaron au Foie Gras, the Foie Gras and Crispy Rice, the Foie-Co, the Terrine au Foie Gras, a Caviar Tartlette, a Dungeness Crab Tartlette, some cheese and the Souffle. Everything was delicious. Our waiter, Ryan was excellent. He introduced us to the manager, Patrick who was happy to hear that we loved all the foie gras on the menu. Ryan also introduced us to Julietta, a waitress that was very knowledgeable about the Uptown neighborhood since we had plans to be there the next day. Everyone was so helpful which really made our visit to Chicago enjoyable.

Obélix is a Michelin Recommended Bib Gourmand fine dining option in the Chicago River North Neighborhood. We enjoyed an outstanding meal! Two dishes, the tomato tart and the roasted carrots, were truly memorable. The terrine and the tartare rounded out our meal. The foie gras macaron with date paste concluded a meal we won’t soon forget. This is a must visit!

Obelix offers a modern French experience in a sleek & industrial space, with a menu that features a dedicated duck section. From the small plates, the foie gras macaron was the clear standout, creamy and indulgent in every bite. For entrées, the duck breast was outstanding - super tender and flavorful, and finished with beautifully crisp skin. The ribeye was another satisfying dish, paired with a peppery sauce and crispy fries that worked wonderfully with the garlic aioli. Dessert fell a bit flat from my visit - the berry-forward egg soufflé was pleasant but overpowered the delicate egg flavor I was hoping to taste. Service was a bit uneven, with an awkward 40-minute lull between small plates and mains. Also worth noting that the bill includes an automatic 4% employee retention charge. Overall, Obelix delivers a polished take on French dining, and it’s a worthy spot to visit for a special occasion (especially for duck lovers!).
