Obélix
Obélix — established french in River North with a loyal following. Order the Beef Wellington. It gets busy, and that's part of the appeal. "The Foie-co is such a unique bite and the Beef Wellington is the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant" — Pete West

“Jumping right to the key bit... Best beef wellington I've had in my life, unbelievably delicious and make perfectly. The "foie dog" was a really fun dish to try and luckily is not just for the looks, it had a great flavor and the foie gras was very buttery, the nuts garnish was unpleasantly hard. My one drawback was the density of the seating. We were seating next to these older loud gentlemen and it might as well have been the same table with 1 tablecloth. Luckily they left halfway through our meal. So expect that (classic?) densely packed french Bistro feel.”

“I came specifically for the foie gras canelé, only to find out they had changed the menu and it was gone. 😭 We made a lunch reservation in advance, and the restaurant was absolutely buzzing when we arrived. From the outside, you would never guess it was this popular. Menu at the end. Around $40 per person. 👉 Salade Lyonnaise Canard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ ($26) Really good. The smoked duck was a little salty, but incredibly fragrant and perfect with the complimentary bread. The portion was much more generous than expected—it genuinely felt like they had shredded an entire duck leg onto the plate. Paired with the vinaigrette-dressed salad, it was fresh, savory, and very appetizing. I loved this one. 👉 Escargot Knot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ($12) Delicious, but extremely rich. The pastry shell was baked until beautifully crisp and shattered into flakes the second you touched it. Such a creative idea too. I had never seen classic French garlic escargot baked inside a croissant-style pastry before. The only problem is the amount of butter. Even shared between two people, it started to feel a little overwhelming. 👉 Truffle Canelé ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ ($15) A little too wet inside, which made it taste much sweeter than expected. The caramelized shell never really formed. Instead, the outside had a slightly firm, sticky texture, almost like dried sugar that still clings to your teeth. The small spoonful of jam on top felt unnecessary. The highlight was the black truffle, which they used quite generously. 👉 Bloody Mary ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ($10) A very committed Bloody Mary. It tasted almost like a flavorful chilled tomato soup, but for me it was too salty and spicy. I would have enjoyed it much more if it were slightly lighter. The tomato flavor was very concentrated, almost like tomato sauce diluted with water. 📍700 N Sedgwick St, Chicago, IL 60654, USA”

“來吃Brunch 空間非常漂亮~ 桌距偏近 服務員態度很好 洋蔥湯&Pastry都好吃 點了可頌跟胡蘿蔔蛋糕 龍蝦crepe我很期待但好像沒有很Surprise的感覺 龍蝦的存在感沒有特別高><”

“Their dishes are flavorful. You have many options with duck and foie gras. Taste: the lobster crepe dish was refreshing. The duck salad and foie gras pancake dish were rich. It’s all shareable and great for small parties or dining yourself.”

“A top-notch casual, French dining experience. I will definitely visit again!”

“Everything is so perfect and best burger I have had in the U.S.”

“The food is absolutely fabulous, and my wife loved it very much. We had the oysters, escargot, foie-co, duck consomme and halibut with a side of asparagus. The oysters tasted clean and fresh, and were not briny. Not for briny oyster lovers. The escargot was really tender and soft, and some of the best we've had. The foie-co was a very nice take on a foie gras taco, but I felt that the foie gras could have been more flavorful, though it melted in my mouth and the mouthfeel was perfect. The halibut was good, though I did not feel anything spectacular I think it is worth the price, and the asparagus was excellent. Service is kind and thoughtful but I thought the gap in serving between the foie-co and our halibut was really long. We saw a lot of people waiting also for tables to be ready and we would've been done sooner if not for the long wait for the halibut, though we ordered it right at the start. Probably better to get an early reservation at 5 plus than one during dinner time due to this.”

“Just had a second visit to Obelix! Last time we had a lovely dining experience with Jordan! This time, had the pleasure of meeting Jake, Tatum, Raina, and Celeste; they were so kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food we ordered was out of this world and the cocktail menu can’t be beat! Thank you for making my birthday brunch one for the books! Can’t wait to return and visit all of you again soon!”

“Obelix was great! Alexa was our server and had great recommendations.”

“I have been to Obelix many times for brunch and several times for dinner! The food is SO good and the service is exceptional. I’ve tried many dishes and have loved them all! My faves are all the pastries (croissants, danishes, canelés, pain suisse), the merguez brunch dish, Moroccan carrots, and all the dishes with foie gras! The menu is so exciting and changes with the season! Yesterday we had the newly added calamari grillés app, and duck breast dish which were so tasty and the egg yolk pasta with artichoke. I wanted to lick my pasta bowl!!! They also have an amazing to-go pastry box that you can pre-order during the week for weekend pickups! I love this restaurant so much, and I really think you will, too!”

“I was visiting Chicago and made it a point to try Obélix because I’d never had beef Wellington before, and it’s not something that’s easy to find where I’m from. It ended up being a great choice. From the moment we sat down, the service stood out. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the experience feel relaxed. My friend and I shared the beef Wellington, which came with béarnaise sauce, peppercorn sauce, fries, asparagus, and garlic aioli. The Wellington itself was cooked perfectly—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The contrast between the crisp, flaky puff pastry and the savory sauces really elevated the dish. You can tell a lot of care went into the preparation. The fries were crispy and well-seasoned, and they paired especially well with the garlic aioli. Even the sides felt thoughtfully done rather than an afterthought. We also ordered drinks, which were well-balanced and enjoyable, and the ambiance struck a nice balance, upscale but still comfortable. Overall, I left very satisfied and would absolutely return the next time I’m in Chicago.”

“Service was great. Really liked the atmosphere. The food was delicious and beautiful. Had the mussels, hamachi, french onion soup, and prime rib. I've been back multiple now and always good. Had the Beef Wellington which was perfectly cooked - very filling!”
