Sun Rey Cafe — one of Wicker Park's strongest filipino spots. Hospitality you can feel from the door. Owner-operated, BYOB. "Family is super friendly and hospitable, the food is incredible, we can’t recommend this place enough" — Abigail Nave

The food is actually tasty, but the owner was chauvinistic and utterly insufferable. He had the worse manners.

“The Manilla breakfast was my personal favorite, the eggs were perfectly over easy, the Logganisa sausage was outstanding, very happy I tried it”
“Super tasty Filipino and American breakfast in a cheery and cozy spot with tabletops tiled in white...”
Super tasty Filipino and American breakfast in a cheery and cozy spot with tabletops tiled in white penny-round tile and walls covered with eclectic homey decor. During warmer weather, they also have outdoor seating. What to get: - The Pork Belly Adobo (served with white rice or garlic rice, 2 eggs any style, side of achara pickles, cucumber, tomato. The adobo is super tasty and goes so well with the pickle, rice, and eggs.) - Chicken and Waffles (the chicken [one piece dark, one piece white] is SO good, but it's a long wait if you order this; my guess is they're incredibly good at frying chicken and also fry to order, but they don't have a pressure fryer which is way faster, but is also a really huge piece of equipment) - Santa Fe Hash (chorizo, bell peppers, red onion, garlic, cheese, tomato, potatoes, and toast)...we can't over-emphasize how well this dish is cooked: the potatoes are perfectly crisp, the peppers and onions are perfectly caramelized, there's the right amount of slightly crisped chorizo, and everything goes great with the eggs. - Two Eggs with Bacon if you're a fan of crispy thick-cut bacon (with toast and choice of home-fried potatoes or fried garlic rice) - The Garlic Fried Rice Service is attentive, friendly, and on point. They'll remember you if you visit often. :) Note: they can get busy with long food-prep times during peak hours on weekends, so plan accordingly.

Fun place for breakfast. By the time we finished our breakfast it was packed. This is a family operation with dad cooking and his son serving. Breakfast was tasty.

“If I could give this cafe 10 stars, I totally would.”
If I could give this cafe 10 stars, I totally would! This morning I was out running errands when I decided to pop in on a whim and I’m SO glad I did. As soon as I walked up, there was a special posted at the door that briefly caught my eye. I was dining solo, got greeted right away. I ordered a coffee which was super fresh (no burnt or bitter taste, phew). Everything on the menu sounded amazing but I went for the Filipino-inspired special... and WOW, it was absolutely delicious! 10/10. Every bite was unique, smoky, sweet, salty, tangy and the bed of garlic rice w/ my medium over-easy eggs? Total perfection. The way I cleaned my plate...lol The whole team was so friendly and welcoming. I even got to meet the owner, Larry, his wife, their son Toby and Carlos. Just such a great vibe all around! Will definitely be back.

“Such a cute breakfast spot.”
Such a cute breakfast spot! I stopped here with friends during my trip to Chicago and honestly will probably come here every time I’m in town now. The folks who I assumed were the owners were genuinely super sweet, were assisting tables, and just genuinely very hands on which is always nice to see. I ordered the Manilla breakfast which was different than any breakfast platter that I’ve tried and sooo yummy. My server Tobi was also very nice and attentive! Much love from Texas.

Cute place. My son enjoyed his Manila breakfast. My usual eggs, bacon, potatoes were very good. I had 3 thick slices of bacon. The bacon was so good and so thick, I couldn’t quite eat all of it! Our waiter was super. Great place to relax and enjoy your meal!

“Stumbled upon this place with my partner and it was so good.”
Stumbled upon this place with my partner and it was so good. For brunch, I got the Manila breakfast. The owners were extremely welcoming and hospitable, and introduced themselves personally. They let us know of a dinner they do once a month and we made reservations. The food was phenomenal and we definitely did not walk away hungry. The decor is warm and bright, and all wait staff were attentive. Definitely stop by!

“Friendly vibes and serivce.”
Friendly vibes and serivce. I came in for there dinner menu and enjoyed it a lot. I had the classic chicken adobo and turkey chicken lumpia both very great and tasty. Also had the whipped sweet potato which was good. Topped it off with their rice pudding. Overall had a great experience. Will have to come back for the brunch menu.
