The Jibarito Stop
The Jibarito Stop brings authentic Puerto Rican flavor to Chicago’s Loop, with standout plantain sandwiches filled with pernil, steak, chicken, or vegan fillings, plus excellent arroz con gandules, empanadas, flan, tembleque, and refreshing lemonade. Puerto Rican music and decorations create a welcoming taste of home, while quick service suits lunch or late-night bites—not formal dates. Many praise generous servings, though recent reviews mention smaller portions and higher prices.

“First time visiting a Puerto Rican restaurant, so this was a new experience for me. I had a half order of vegan jibarito. It included a side of white rice and beans (beans not shown in the photo). I also ordered a glass of parcha (passion fruit juice) for a drink. It was all very good. My dining companion had carne frita mofongo, which he said was also very good. This will be on our list of places to eat when we go into the city. Definitely will be back.”

“I enjoyed the veg jibarito. The tostones were excellent and the white rice and beans very tasty. I am not from PR so I cannot comment on authentic flavors. They have put lots of care an attention to the new site. I hope it does well. I might suggest for those eating in the restaurant you offer real silverware and skip the plastic.”
