Kapitan — dependable food in Lincoln Park. The recipes feel handed down, not invented. Ask questions, the staff has answers. "The dishes were so tasty and the meat was nice and tender" — Maham S.

“the restaurant itself is a pretty large space, would love to see this filled up lore because the food is so good and the service is lovely”
Serai and Kapitan are the same restaurant and I wish I could give a higher rating.
FYI - Kapitan & Serai are the same shop. As a Singaporean, I had to come by here to try the food.
Absolutely terrible service. I came in today with a simple order nasi lemak, a drink, and a dessert.

“Hands down best Malaysian food I’ve had outside of Malaysia.”
Hands down best Malaysian food I’ve had outside of Malaysia! We ordered the nasi lemak beef rendang and the chee cheong fun. The aroma and taste is so authentic, couldn't help but dig right in! Only thing is no utensils were given in the delivery order.

“Wow Kapitan was so good.”
Wow Kapitan was so good! Went for the first time tonight and absolutely loved it. Had the Kapitan chicken - super flavorful and great portion size. Also got the Bubur Chacha for dessert and it was tremendous. Friend had the roti appetizer which was unreal. Full bar service and great for groups. Good prices. Truly a great experience and will be returning soon

“Serai and Kapitan are now one.”
Serai and Kapitan are now one! Too bad Serai closed because it was delicious. The mee goreng was very tasty, as were the pictured laksa and nasi lemak. I thought the char kway teow was just ok and lacked flavor.

“If you liked SERAI you’ll LOVE KAPITAN.”
If you liked SERAI you’ll LOVE KAPITAN! Amazing curried chicken n potatoes, shrimp noodle soup AND spicy three chili chicken! Plus their signature drinks were very tasty yet surprisingly strong (other restaurants really skimp on the booze)! I had a rum version of an old fashioned: Goddess of the Valley. My daughter had the Rosy Retrospection.

“The food here was amazing.”
The food here was amazing. More people need to know about this restaurant. We tried several dishes and nearly all were spectacular. Burger: friend got this and it was so flavor and loved the addition of the omelette. Beef rendang: 10/10. Would get this again. Shrimp and asparagus samba(?): this was my favorite. A lot of flavor and spice packed into the dish. Hainanese chicken: honestly I’d pass on this dish. It was ok but I’d go for the other dishes! Not pictured but were standouts: chicken satay and pork belly appetizers. A must get!

Excellent food. Everything was delicious. If you're into dishes with lots of flavor that veer toward sweet and savory, go here. The pork belly, green beans, and kaya toast are especially delicious.
